but he needs to be the filler guy when the real hybrid guy is tired or the 4-5th WR when we spread it out , this offense really puts the stress on the D in that hybrid spot and if Phillips can do what he did game one there will be big plays. he made a ton of plays today and will be even more effective when phillips is back.

we need one more WR who can stretch the field and one more Phillips type hybrid and then Lesters vision can take off.. hopefully that happens next year.

Lewis should absolutely, positively, 100% be a possession receiver on this team. He'd be a great underneath guy to complement Ishmael and Estime.

He's absolutely not a hybrid.
It does seem like he's the one that's different from the others, but Lester must have a reason for using him there.

Blocking and 3rd down possession receiver

Agree with this 1000%.

He should be in the game, but as a receiver, runs great routes, catches almost everything. He can get you 5-8 yards almost anytime.

Strong as hell, fast enough, just not a ball carrier. No shame in that, lots of great wr would fail as ball carriers. It's my only quibble with Lester yesterday, I thought Lester was outstanding

He is also an excellent blocker at the point of attack. I can't remember the play, but he absolutely handled a DE from LSU. I remember being concerned when SU lined up thinking the play was going to get blown up. I was wrong, we ripped off a pretty good run due to his block.

I believe Lester said the reason why they moved Lester to eXpressback due to his blocking and his overall football IQ. He picked up everything very quickly. What's to say with him we use him to block on runs and he could still be a nice possession receiver as the eXpressback to make sure we get a match up we want?

I wish we won't use him on the run. He doesn't have elite speed to turn the corner and isn't a RB type who can take on defenders. He had one run where he went inside, which made no sense. In fairness maybe the blocker had no choice to kick the defender to the outside.

Another minor quibble is the empty backfield with the RBs in the slot. I rather see us use 2 hybrids in that formation. McFarlane and Morris aren't as effective as Strickland there. If the D puts in all passing personnel you can shift one of the hybrids to RB and go with a run play. Maybe in the long run Lester will look to go hurry up, which would take away the chance for substitution. But being year 1 of the system and having inexperienced QB play has made that impossible.

i wonder whey phillips comes back if we see more of him and estime at the same time.
