Loved the Rak we watched last night

The performance of the bigs last night left me encouraged that this could be the year that they start to contribute some real positives for the team. Keita seems all ready to go, his rebounding has taken a step up and his offense also shows improvement. Coleman and Christmas were everything that you mention above. Love the intensity that Coleman plays with, and his rebounding is impressive. Very good hands. Christmas is contesting shots way out on the perimeter on one play, and preventing a back door under the basket with quick hands and anticipation on another play. Good stuff.

Very tough to judge in these games, they probably haven't seen teams weaker than this since high school. I hope it can be a confidence booster but the skill area we really don't know how much they improved.

We had this discussion in the chat room last night: Getting to the FT line against midgets is nothing to get excited about; however that fact the DC was 7 for 10 is midget-independent and not to be trivialized.

If Rak can play with that type of effert everynight it will go a long way tpoward him being consistent which I think is his biggest hurdle. I was cheering when he git that foul going after an offensive rebound. He needs to play hard and not worry about fouling wehave Kaite and DC2. DC2 was much better on offense but he still has things to clean up. He's a great rebounder but his D is a work in progress. I have no worries at all about Baye.

Rak needs to rebound more consistently. Period. It is a sin for someone with his physical capabilities to drift through games getting 2 or 3 boards. But the good news is that both Rak and Coleman seem to be poised to contribute more this year [we already know what we're getting with Keita, who I expect to finish most big games].

Bottom line: its nice to have options. And while the individual success of Rak or Coleman might vary game-to-game, based upon matchups, foul trouble, etc. I expect bigger contributions from both this season.

That "midget" was a 6'9 transfer from Missouri. Same height as Duke's center (who is favored to win our league). I'm not saying Ryerson was any good, but they had legit D1 size, and some decent athleticism.

Did anyone in the chat mention that maybe the reason Coleman and Christmas played so well is because they have been practicing to beat legit D1 centers, and are ready to beat legit D1 centers, and this game was the closest they have come yet to facing one?

It is possible that the only reason they played poorly in the last game is because that was the team of midgets playing zone and there is no gameplan to beat midgets playing zone since its nothing we will see during the year.

This is my hope as well. We've had plenty of big guys that didn't have particularly great showings in the exhibitions and early season cupcakes. Thats nothing new. The little teams tend to swarm any big guy where teams with size don't have to which allows time and space for the bigs to operate.

I believe the term is little people.
