How do people see our low-post scoring compared with last year? For me personally, that's always my biggest concern, because I think it correlates very strongly with offensive efficiency.

I know Lydon can be effective on the low block at times. Coleman is a total wild card. Where are Chukwu and Thompson right now in terms of being able to back their man down and score on a baby hook? I honestly have no idea.

I imagine lots of alley oops dunks passes to our bigs coming from Battle or Gillon driving to the rim. In terms of footwork in the low post, I thought Lydon showed a really good drop-step move last year. I hope it gets better. TT has good footwork in his highlight videos. I close my eyes and I see Coleman bobbing his head and muscling to the basket the same as last year. Chuckwu who knows???

I'd say that this is a real weakness of the team, so you'd be right to be concerned. I keep hoping to see glimpses of Arinze in Coleman's game and he seems like our best chance at a back to the basket game. I completely agree about low post scoring. The ability to throw it to a Warrick or Onuaku and let them go to work opened up the floor for everyone else.

There were games where DC looked like he was putting it together as far as getting a good shot up from the post. Most of his career has been backboard breaking heaves, but I think he will be a credible threat to score 2 to 3 times per game on post feeds. I don't know anything about the other guys.

We actually have consistent shooting guards now so low post scoring won't be as important.
I like low post scoring but having good shooting matters more.

Better.

Coleman at worst will be at least as effective as he was, and he started performing better toward the end of the year. I'd envision that with him being healthy during the offseason for the first time, that he was able to focus on improving his game instead of just rehabbing.

Lydon will be better with an offseason of physical development.

Roberson might dial it up a notch for his senior year, too.

And even if Roberson / Chukwu only finish at the rim, I think they'll get several more opportunities inside due to superior penetrating from Gillon / Battle / Howard over how our offense operated last year.

So overall, while I don't know that we'll be pounding the ball inside like we did with Rak two seasons ago, I think we'll be able to generate better inside scoring than we did last year, due to both floor spacing and guys who can get into the lane and set up teammates for easy scores along the baseline.

This season's guards should be able to feed the post better than Cooney and Gbinije, so I anticipate better offensive production out of the center position for that reason alone.

I just think of it as a security blanket when shots aren't falling. Mal had a couple 0-for-8 million shooting stretches last year and it really hurt our ability to win games (hence losing to an abysmal St. Johns team).

My dream is for DC to play like a senior AO. I know he has it in him.

Mail was a freshman. He , Lydon and G were all the consistent shooting we had and neither was as good as White was last year.
Now we can throw Gillon, Battle, White, Lydon and one of Roberson/Coleman/Chukwu lineup.
That is a lineup with 4 shooters and now JB won't be married to playing just Cooney/G and Howard could get better.

This team just has more offensive potential now. We Should average the most PPG since 2012 this year.

None of our post players should be worse than he was last year. Couple that with the fact that this year's team has actual guards who will deliver the ball to big men in scoring position, we ought to be better.

The only possible way we won't improve in this area, I believe, is if somehow we can't muster a perimeter shooting threat and the defense packs the interior. But odds are that a couple of the new guys will shoot well enough to keep defenses honest.

I don't understand this - don't mean to be argumentative, but what have you seen from the guy with sub-par offensive skills that would suggest the ability to play like the best offensive big man Syracuse ever saw?

I was just trying to be nice. I know it's very unlikely.

Are you saying AO was better offensively than Derrick Coleman or Warrick or Seikaly?

Yeah, that was a too-simplistic way of noting that he's the school leader in field-goal percentage and was generally automatic from the block. Seikaly and Coleman and Hill and others had more offensive skills.

I love DaJuan's enthusiasm and work ethic. My hopes for him this season: dozens more opportunities to see his great outlet passes, 60% shooting, few instances of getting stripped in the post, and continued excellence from the line. He'll be a huge fan favorite if he's able to convert his scoring opportunities.

Exactly. Last year even when our guards penetrated it was shoot or kickout. This year it will be shoot, dump off, or kickout. The more dump offs the more wide open guys will be for kickouts.

I dont see a lot of plays called specifically for our centers / low post guys. Maybe if DC gets hot /has a physical mismatch every once in a while.

But we will be very tough to guard at the 1-4 positions, say Howard/Gillon, Battle, White, Lydon. Other teams will have no choice to use help D with their centers on those 4. That will leave PC/DC open for easy finishes. We just need an unselfish playmaker- step on up Battle, Howard, Gillon, etc!
