I know the NCst Dline might be better than LSU, but the closing speed of the lb/dbs at LSU killed some really well designed plays. I know the NC st dudes are not better on the back 7. Lets hope that those plays continue to get to where they are supposed to be because Clemson/FSU might shut those down but wake/pitt/BC wont.

we had 5 dives the 2nd half. Two we just missed our chances to keep the chains moving and the other 3 we scored.. One got hurt by the chain gang and we wasted a drive losing that sneak play on first down.

We ran the first throw back play to Dungey, We have 5 blockers on 2 and a Wr. its behind the line so someone has to get that DT out of the play. he slows it up and it goes 10 yds.

But OK we survive that delay. We still have 3 blockers and WR out in front

10 yds down field.. the DB we never hit comes back on the field. 3 oline and Pierce have still not blocked a single person and 9 makes the tackle and slows it up for 45 to clean it up. Finally 1 oline guy is making a block. Again we turn 20-30 of a play call into 10.

I *LOVE* this stuff.

Even as it makes me really, REALLY sad.
We literally were only 1-2 plays away from an all-time great upset win.

Soooo many missed opportunities - and not just the big, glaring ones:
like the dropped TD, or the dropped Pick-6.

On the plus side, these opportunities are there, which means the coaches are calling a good game, it's just not being executed well - yet.

The screen game is such a mystery. I cant tell if its just missed blocks or what but they are seldom even close to working.. Thats huge part of the game we just cant seem to use.

On the whole, yep... esp inside screens. But the one where we try to get the right look by lining up really quick and throwing out to the two WR outside of the numbers seems to go for a cheap 5 yards. That’s the one the we used to eat Pitt alive last year.

The way the outside ones are designed in this scheme typically leads to short/quick yards or nothing. It's used to pick up quick yards like a running play and at the same time draw the DB's closer to the line over the course of a game. 2 WR's line up on the outside, 1 WR runs straight drawing a defender, 2 WR catches the ball and is either tackled quickly by the DB or in zone coverage/or coverage playing off the WR catches and can run 3+ yards and then is tackled.

That's why the LSU play was so mind boggling. Before the ball was even snapped it was obvious LSU was waiting for that exact play. As soon as ED turned I knew it was highly likely to get picked off. LSU was sitting on that play and it's such a quick play by the QB that once you turn you're firing the ball.

but the lsu pick wasnt a quick screen, they both went down field and turned. throw had to be out before the turn not after

Good analysis and so was shafer and his 11 disciples. Small miracle none of those plays were not picked.

Nice work! VLC is such a great media player, btw.

Definitely, my bad. I meant to separate the two ideas and didn’t do a great job. To me, the way the play develops and is run is very similar and can lead to pick 6’s with a faster team, playing more physical, and waiting for the play. Ball definitely has to be out before the WR turns and that is true for that play and the screen.

When I was a kid I had a book of NFL plays shown in sequences like that. I looked at it for hours, watching the plays develop, frame by frame,
