Looking at the first 2 games vs Pitt -- our first shot defense was solid, good enough to win -- the problem is they seem to kill us on the boards and get all those 2nd chance opportunities.

I could argue our most important player tomorrow is Roberson and/or DC. We know what we'll get from G, Lydon and Mali. We probably know what we'll get from Trev unless he just goes off. We need Robey and DC to be big time.

I went to a football game once and after the home team lost the game there were two guys arguing in the parking lot. One guy say, "It was the defense. If the defense did their job the offense would have had more chances to score." Then the other guy would scream, "It was the offense. If the offense was able to move the ball then the defense would not have gotten tired.". This shouting match went on for 10 minutes. I laughed so hard it was just crazy. That's why I posted, "We need to play good defense." Inside joke I guess.

I think this game needs to be in the 70s (like Jake said). To get there, I would be hoping for something like:

G --> 18-20+ pts, solid defense with no bad turnovers (please). Out best player needs to do it all again.
Richardson --> 12-14 pts, 2/3 treys, less out of control driving into the front court
Cooney --> 10-12 pts, just give us even 40% shooting Trevor, solid defense. No heat checks after one made basket.
Lydon --> 12-14 pts, 6-8 boards. Does enough inside to at least make it hard for Pitt (although doubtful)
Roberson --> 6-8 pts, 6-8+ boards. We absolutely need him to board.
Coleman --> 4-6pts, 4-5 boards, no easy buckets down low.
Howard --> 0-4pts (scoring doesn't matter), no silly turnovers and continue to drive, 2-4 assists

Guards need to rebound. Period. We were outrebounded by 38 in our two games. You can't put that all on our bigs. If Lydon plays at the 5 for extended minutes, I see big problems again.

Agree. But you make things a lot easier for him if you make threes. Not shooting well, especially from 3, causes a lot of long rebounds (which lead to run-outs), but also wears Roberson down. I really do think constantly crashing into the paint and jumping and running down long rebounds is tiring. We make shots, more opportunity to focus energy on defensive rebounding which is much more important in this game, imo.
