I think it speaks more to that it's rare guys who needed to stay in college for 3-4 years end up being all stars or a higher tier player, as opposed to the guys who left early are all stars because they were in the NBA an extra year or two. The players who have the elite physical gifts or extraordinary talent typically have made it clear by the end of their freshman or sophomore year.

Also, the view is that often times Jr's and Sr's are 2-3 years older than most of the players they're playing against (and everyone their age who was really good/great has moved on) so they should be dominating. Like with Buddy Hield, he was dominant and got noticed. On the flip side, he's only 2 months younger than Andre Drummond who is considered an NBA veteran. Can you imagine Drummond in the college game last year?

Honestly, I think it just boils down to does the team have a GM who is good at the draft or not. Seems like every year it's the same teams who throw picks away and the same teams who are mining value wherever the pick is slotted.
