The three-day regatta begins on Friday morning and concludes on Sunday afternoon. Following the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Men's Sprints, Syracuse earned an at-large invitation to the 2015 IRA Regatta. In its history, the Orange has won six national titles in the varsity eight competition, the main event of the national championship regatta. Syracuse's top boat last took home top honors in 1978. The Orange will send four boats to the waters of Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The first varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight, and varsity four crews all will participate in their respective national championship competitions. Racing begins on Friday morning at 8 a.m. with the first varsity eight heats. The first and second varsity eight heats will go off in 15-minute increments. The third varsity eight, freshmen eight, and varsity four heats will begin at 10 a.m. and proceed in 12-minute increments. The top-two finishers in each heat advance to Saturday's semifinals, while all the others will go on to the repechages, which will be held Friday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. The winner of each of the four repechages will advance to the first and second semifinals, which are for spots in the grand and petite finals. The other crews will go to the third and fourth semifinals, which determine third and fourth level finals placements.
