Been a while since I started a thread, took me a minute to figure it out. Long story short, I absolutely loathed the broadcast by the crew today and after being subjected to an afternoon of Bob Wishusen and Louis Riddick and the forced SEC hometism, I took some time off from the tube. I knew I wanted to watch Clemson LSU this evening and the first option that presented itself was the sky cast version on ESPNU. I’m loving the above view from the field of play and more importantly, I’m loving the lack of the inane prattling of a Wishusen or Riddick type that detracts from the game. I’ve watched these type of broadcasts before, but let me emphasize how much Bob Wischusen and Louis Riddick made me detest their work. I usually enjoy the insights of the color and PBP guy, but their pushing of the SEC and Tennessee was tiresome and overtly biased. This skycast has been cathartic for me. No valid utterances and a superior manner to view the plays

Totally agree. You also get more time watching them lineup. I get that the average viewer would rather see closeups of whomever doing whatever but I am a football nerd. I want to read the defense and such and when they just jump cut to the snap you don’t always get time to do that.

Funnily enough this last Thursday I ended up volunteering to assist with the HUDL recording for my freshman sons JV game, and I was assigned an end zone camera rig, basically a 2 story tripod with a camera controlled by an iPod. My last film experience was with vhs on a scaffold we brought to opposing fields in the 90’s. As I was controlling the camera, I was blown away. I ended up watching the Ipad more the the actual field

My Tenn friend texted me after the game, saying he was surprised that the commentators were so pro-TN and that Syracuse was much better than they were given credit for. They did put up 26 on a great defense.

While the scores says the offense scored 26. The couple gift TDs the offense gave them skewed that number

One less score and we are kicking XPs and FGs and probably score 34 at worst.

Hmmm, I thought Louis Riddick was complimentary to Syracuse throughout the game. He also said some nice things about Fran, including the DART mantra. But again, I was drinking heavily so I wasn't exactly listening to every detail.

I usually listen to WAER (on line) before the game, during halftime, and after the game. For some reason, I started listening to WAER's play-by-play during the second half and eventually just muted the TV altogether. It was a big improvement. They were actually naming the SU players involved in each play (as opposed to the TV guys).

The TV guys were talking stories while SU's offense was running plays in the first half. Disrespectful! They were going in to the mode "well, this game is over, let's pass the time".

Back to the point of your post, watching the broadcasts with no TV announcers, just the PA announcer, is like being in the stadium at a game. It's great.

That's funny because often when I'm at a game, I sometimes wonder what the tv announcers are saying about a play.
