Even Gmac pulled out hundreds of thousands of dollars from his very short lived career and even to this day probably has earned more from his pro career than some of his classmates. I'm in the school of, go to school, leave when the percentages are on your side and collect while you can, put money aside and go back to school or take classes online during your playing days and get the degree and either go into coaching or in the field that you got your degree in.
