Saw it today.

Did no t realize its scope. It looks like it will almost double the space.

It will extend the football wing significantly towards Skytop and is in the very early stages.

There will be a grand entrance similar to Carmello Entrance.

Very exciting development that will make a difference.

In your opinion, will this retro-fit significantly close the "facilities" gap?

Clearly our facilities have turned the corner. They have progressed.

Manley, yes. But I like it too.

I'm a little confused; by "in the early stages," do you mean that this is the first phase of a larger, future expansion?

Because this current construction work involves very little new construction - only a few hundred square feet between the weight room and the old football wing entrance. No building expansion toward Skytop.

This is vital to the progress of the program, we need to keep pace with our ACC brothers. Facilities are one of the biggest factors in recruiting.

That said, does anyone know what is new? hall of fame? new training rooms/locker rooms? Would be interested to know.

Not certain, but I think the locker rooms have already been done. More information on this project here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2Xo82GXTbPdRk9fcEk3ZFFFcEk/edit

OPA is pretty plugged in.

I don't doubt it, but they need to seek planning commission approval for any modifications within the PID. The only proposal they've brought before the city is the one I linked to, a renovation and expansion of only 753 square feet, almost wholly within the existing building footprint.

I think most of the visible disturbance around the football wing entrace involves the construction of a new semi-circular driveway and plaza area. They're not constructing any building on that part of the site at this time.

753 square feet??? Must be a holding cell for former players who show up unannounced.

New locker rooms, new coaches offices, new meeting rooms and a hall of fame entrance similar to Carmello Center.

Large project that apparently will be done for next season.

It's crazy how much money gets spent just to look the part.

That isn't new though. Except maybe the entrance, that's been discussed before. Or are you saying new as in the building is being doubled in size and those things will be rebuilt almost from scratch? Or does new mean remodeled?

I agree with Otto on this one. I end up driving past manley on a regular basis and the only expansion I've seen is onto the front of the Football wing entrance. Nothing has been expanded into the lots.

Its almost as if they are pushing the entrance out towards the road by about 100 feet.

I made a few inquiries here in Tampa. The building will be enlarged as I indicated but will not double the size. The project should be done by January. Folks seem pretty excited about it.

I think it is the small expansion for the entrance and the rest is basically remodeling which they did some of the lockeroom already. Sounds like the upgrades that have been discussed.

This all helps. But it doesn't completely solve our issues. I think the practice facility shown on that arcitecht's website would make our facility one of the tops in ACC. Huge help to recruiting

Call me crazy, but I'd really like it if they set some money aside to do something along the lines of Toomer's Corner. Since people don't really build in brick or stone anymore, it'd be nice to have something that will be around for years to come (unlike all the trendy ho-hum glass buildings they build these days).

You could build a park-like area on South Campus that's sort of like a second quad. Then, when the stadium moves to South Campus (which I think and hope it will), you'd have the perfect place to tailgate.

Not for nothing (because the idea is not a bad one at all), but a lot of people don't want to tailgate on the quad we've already got.

Something tells me building a new quad-like area isn't going to change that. For better or worse, there seems to be a preference for parking-lot tailgating.

It's this. Two small additions of under 800 square feet - one for an ice room on the north side of the weight room, one for a coaches' locker room in the space between the existing entrance and the weight room.

All the other visible activity is just grading for a new entrance drive and a plaza.

I've admittedly never even been to a tailgate. :(

But what I'm picturing in my mind is a park/quad incorporated into a parking lot. Hard to explain. Some years ago I read an article that was something like "How to build parking lots that don't look like parking lots" and it would be based off of ideas like that.

I think I read that article, too. Or something similar.

Would be nice, no doubt about it.
