I think Barnes will be a fine player, but I didn’t see a generational corner out there. Had he not have been a 4 star recruit. this thread is maybe 10-20 responses long.

He wasn’t physically ready to contribute this year, but I know that Fran wants kids happy so he gets them PT.

I think we’ll be more than fine.

Barnes was not an overlooked talent. He was a 4 star with plenty of P4 D1 offers. He chose to come to Syracuse to play under Fran. We don’t really know the specifics of why he is leaving but NIL is certainly a more than likely possibility. But this isn’t a case of finding a diamond in the rough and shining light on them. Barnes was a known commodity that would have gotten attention in the portal even if he played 0 snaps this year.

Being injured most of the year and away from home at 18/19 is tough.
He has the talent we all want at CB. Had a very average Freshman year.

Obviously we aren’t privy to all the details here but if the kid didn’t want to stick around and see where this program with HC Fran Brown can take him, then we want him out.

Didn’t play much and in those games he played he didn’t wow me by any means.

Hope he does well where ever goes and if it was because he was homesick, I’m okay with him going. Being away isn’t always easy for these kids. Have to remember at the end of the day they are humans too

I disagree. Overall, I feel the portal helps level the playing field (no pun). While it is unlikely we will ever be able to get to the level of the dozen or so programs that routinely get the top HS or portal guys, we are a good landing spot for players who want PT that they aren't getting at those schools. It helps to have CFB on our side, which is how we got guys like McCord, Diggs, the WR transfers, etc. It definately helped my school Vandy this year. In his third year, the coach made a commitment to the portal. The QB and almost all of the two deep on DL and OL were portal guys.

You have to look at it in the aggregate. How is it offset and what’s the rest of the unit look like?

Since this liberal transfer stuff started it’s been a net positive for SU.

I know a lot of people feel that way. I don't see it like that. Look at the guys you mentioned that helped us, and they certainly did help us. They are most likely late round draft picks and undrafted free agents. We aren't getting first round studs. But the factories are syphoning the early round guys from other schools, taking their difference makers and eroding their depth. Yes, the Ohio States will make mistakes here and there and get rid of a McCord they should keep, but think about how that transpired. Had they not been morons, he would've been their starter this year. We didn't steal him from them. The factories will keep who they want, cast off who they don't, and nab diamonds the lesser schools with good scouting identify and develop.

Bingo. I have a child who goes to college in Tennessee. 13 hrs door to door. It’s a long way from home. Half that time would be a lot easier (especially in the first year.)

Might of told the coaching staff he was going to portal which might be the reason we didn't see him after game 5,,,,, play the kids who going to be here, I thought he was kinda small size wise and even though he was fine in coverage he struggled against the run, Wish him nothing but the best going forward and hopes he finds the happiness he's seeking,
