Watching this OTL program about PSU, I am mightily impressed with how he presented what the the NCAA did and why. And he's a double graduate of SU (Masters and PhD). Loved his reference to yesterday being called "the darkest day in Penn State's history" --- when he responded by sayng the days when kids were being molested were much darker.

I thought the same thing as I watched him yesterday. Very well spoken.

Double graduate of SU? What the heck was he doing chancelloring LSU?

Kind of impressive until he was confronted with a quote of a statement he made while chancellor. Something to the effect that the success of LSU is dependent on the succes of it's football program. Talk about placing athletics on a pedestal. He should be the one to talk.

So a football program SHOULDN'T set the tone for an entire university, unless Emmert is chancellor of said university.

Have to love gotcha questions. He responded in a perfectly sensible manner and pointed out that LSU under Saban went from the worst grad rate in the sec to one of the best.

And regardless, one quote from 8 years ago doesn't render everything else he said to be moot.

They were ripping Emmert on the Paul Finebaum show today. People used such phrases as 'power grab', overstepping his authority, and even claimed that he punished the wrong people with his sanctions, namely the students. A guest stated that Emmert should have gone after the BOT at the school and not the school itself.

This Alabama sportswriter went as far as to say that THE FANS were responsible for the program being the way it was. He said that if they didn't hero worship Paterno, he never would have had the power to begin with. He also stated that Emmert has set himself a very dangerous precedent. This guy had his heart in the right place, I guess, but could not present his point of view very well. His statements made his points sound worse than what he actually meant. Finebaum was left to translate and clean up the mess afterwards. The guy did make a good point about the NCAA and PSU in regards to being more specific as to which children's charities the PSU fines would go to. I think the guy felt that this was going to be another conspiracy.

I feel like my IQ dropped 20 points after that 10 minute segment.

Interesting... SU Maxwell grad Sean O'Keefe is also a former LSU Chancellor.

When did Bob Ley turn into such a tool?

Lenn Robbins of the NY Post wrote a commentary of Emmert today. Not really sure what his motivation was but he has taken a much different approach to Emmert's comments and actions.

Pot meet kettle; that writer should take a look at his own state. Their football stadium is named after Bear, with a bronze statue of Gene Stallings outside it. Not to mention, inside said stadium you will see thousands Houndstooth caps worn by students born a decade after the guy died...

His son, a personal friend of mine, also currently attends SU. Both the son and father were involved in a plane crash in Alaska that killed former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens two summers ago.

For those who think Penn State is destined for perpetual brand failure...wrong.

Blame the past on those no longer there. Go over the top to put controls in place. Help kids and support preventative sexual abuse for children. And focus on the current players, coaches and adminsitrators to position them as the unfortunate handed to deal with the blindingly evil (non)acts of the Sanduskys, Paternos, Curleys, etc.

O'Brien also has been extremely impressive. And knowing the crisis communications team they hired (Edelman), if they keep following the script and follow through action wise, they will be able to deal long term with the stuff their predeccesors will rot in hell for.

Look this was a layup for the guy. I'm not gonna give him kudos for doing something anyone with a brain would have done. While I think the punishment he passed out was "fair" it was a total spotlight grabbing moment for him. Let's not fool ourselves.

I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I could throw him. And with this new found "popularity" he has gotten this week and "praise" I wouldn't put it past him to look for opportunities to be the judge/jury/executioner again to make more headlines Roger Goodell style. He has the Miami case on his agenda next and don't for a minute think he or the NCAA has forgotten about the Bernie Fine debacle. If Emmert has a chance to grab and make a headline he seems like the type who will jump at that. Especially now after how this PSU thing played out.

Hope I am wrong
