Sorry if anyone posted this earlier. I hadn't seen it. But this irked me: “Honestly, what I think about (is) why do we deserve so much of this bad luck?” Marrone said when asked if Saturday’s gift brought to mind the errant shotgun snap 41 games earlier. This, to me, is one of the worst things you can say as a coach. Have we been a little bit unlucky over the last four years? Maybe. But we are absolutely no different than any other college football team in the nation. Whether that be injuries, on-field plays, off-field decisions, etc. Look at last season, and I'd say Wake Forest losing their starting QB that had been absolutely killing us, and the refs of the Toledo game allowing the XP when it clearly was no good are pretty lucky plays. That led to two wins. We still couldn't make a bowl game. On Saturday, Minnesota missing two makeable FGs, including a 26-yarder, is pretty good luck. Also them having a TD called back on a penalty was pretty unlucky for them as well, if luck is arbitrarily handed out like Marrone thinks it is. While we're at it - were we unlucky when Hackett decided a sweep with a 250-lb. running back was the best option with 1/2 yard to go for a TD? Or when our head coach/Hackett decides to throw the ball on the 1 yard line to a true freshman WR against Rutgers last year? You make your own luck. You win or lose games based on all 200-some odd plays per game. Not based on two or three or four that went the wrong way or were "unlucky". I will continue to root for the team and Marrone to succeed - it is in all of our best interests that he does, and does it fast. But the excuses, even if not perceived as such, need to stop before they start.
