Marvin Harrison NFL HOF Semi-Finalist

Uh, care to elaborate?

I'd agree with you if the Bronco Chase never took place. But I think it could be a mitigating factor, especially in voting him in during his first year.

Unlike Ray Lewis, he wasn't charged with a crime. There is no video of him in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit. Just an SI article that's been long forgotten.

It will be interesting, to be sure. Don't forget the voters are mostly writers, whom Harrison treated with disdain throughout most of his career. Should it matter? No. Will it matter? It remains to be seen.

I don't know if he was disdainful toward the media. I would say he was more apathetic. He was a quiet/private guy and really had no interest in the spotlight.

tony dungy
Marvin Harrison
joe jacoby
Michael Strahan
George Young

ray guy
claude humphry

a coach, a skill, an OL a DL a Front Office guy and the 2 Seniors Committee guys.

they got carter in last year, that should clear the path for Marvin. the roadblock being if they try to sneak reed in 1st, i doubt it though.

Marvin's great race against time and the long arm of the law is geting short now!!!

another 365 is probably not a good thing.....

OK, so barring all the off the field stuff, do people think he's a lock?

Derrick Brooks... better than Warren Sapp on arguably the best defense in the time. Sapp was a first ballot. And Brooks is excellent human being as well as highly respected by the media. He will be first ballot.

hes a lock. '

mabye not a 1st ballot lock, although he should be.

but provided his empire keeps running smoothly, hes good to go.

brooks is not getting in before Strahan, Haley and Greene.

Strahan is a mortal lock this year.

hes going to be the Star of the 2 week build up before the game.

and the night before, he gets crowned King.

As per Tomcats signature, this moves us up into a top 4?? school in terms of producing NFL HOF's, should Marvin make it. Tied with Pitt with (8) We still have a shot with Coughlin, Freeney, and McNabb when their times come around too!

Marv never produced big numbers in the playoffs. I wonder if that will be an impediment.

I think he's a lock.

He was the best WR of his day - he was always open.

A great player.

Many people believe that Art Monk's aversion to the spotlight kept him out of the HOF for years and years.

Gary Anderson would be higher on the list than McNabb.

Coughlin is a lock.

Freeney will get in.

FWIW: Marvin should have the single season reception record for a long time. 143 is just stupid. his overall rec, yds and tds make him a lock.

the discussion is really this year or next?

agree, forgot about Gary Anderson!

Amazing how writers let personal bias decide how they vote...real professional of them. They vote in coke and hooker addicts like a certain ESPN NFL annalist but keep out an outstanding citizen like Monk for years because he wasn't buddy buddy with them. Lewis should be a first vote Hall guy then, he fits the criteria.

100% lock.

His all-time NFL ranks:
  • 1102 receptions (3rd)
  • 128 rec TD (5th)
  • 14580 rec yards (6th)
  • 8-time Pro Bowler
  • 143 receptions in 2002 (NFL record; 20 higher than the next highest)
  • Pro Football Hall of Fame 1st Team All-2000's Team

We need another dynamic receiver in a bad way. Mike Williams and Alec Lemon have been some of the closest recent examples, and they're still way behind his talent. I'd take someone who is 2/3 as good as he was.

he had an aversion to staying in bounds. ;)
on 3rd & 7...nobody ran 10 yards, stopped, turned to come back 2 yards to catch the ball...and step out of bounds with a 1st down better than Monk.

lets be clear, he did that over 900x...thats why hes in the hall.

its also why it took him 7 or 8 years to get there.

No question on Strahan... may question his record breaking sack, but you are right, he is a no brainer...

I never understood why it took Monk so long to get in the HOF. The guy had the all-time reception record when he retired, for crying out loud! Any player who holds a career mark (for good stats) should be a 1st ballot guy. Monk was a dynamic WR, not just a 10 yard out specialist. He had a lot of catches that went for big yardage, particularly in the first half of his career where he often got behind the defense and went for big gains.
