Maryland issues subpoena to Syracuse & 9 other ACC schools

I posted this question in the other thread about this:

"Following the ACC’s recent filing to stay all discovery in the ongoing legal battle over Maryland’s roughly $52 million exit payment following its announced departure to the Big Ten, the school in January and Feburary summoned documents from the following institutions: North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolina State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia. According to an affidavit signed by North Carolina-based attorney J. Alexander S. Barrett, only Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech have thus far complied, while North Carolina State was granted extra time “only on the basis of time set forth for compliance.”"

  • So, I assume either the list should have said Virginia Tech instead of Virginia, or Virginia (and not Virginia Tech) has complied.
  • The headline says 10 schools, but the list above has 9. Which is it?
  • No Pitt, Miami, BC, Florida St. Why not? Are they MD 'friends'?

Per the Pitt Post-Gazette, Pitt was subpoenaed in February: http://www.syracuse.com/orangebaske...chools_including_syracuse.html#incart_m-rpt-2.

The B1G uses power like a blunt instrument , Chicago style. I hope Maryland is aware of what they are dealing with.

I think it's time for the ACC to up the ante and threaten to subpoena the Big 10 and some of their schools like OSU, etc. So far the suit isn't impacting the B1G. I bet as soon as it does UMD gets some pressure to settle. Time to make things uncomfortable in their new home. Can't wait till these guys are gone.

The ACC should subpoena the Big Ten Network and Fox to see all the consultations and meetings to expand by going after Maryland, Virginia and UNC.

I'd like to see the ACC file for an injunction to prevent Maryland from competing in any Big 10 sports until the exit fee is paid. That would be a kick in the balls.

This action makes Maryland look desparate. If they had sufficient evidence from Pitt and the other schools as well as the ACC they would simply move forward.

Next, the frivolous claim of ACC recruiting B1G schools is a failure from the start, the B1G obviously did the same to the ACC as Maryland is going to them, the reverse can be counterclaimed. Delaney and Co. will not want their info to come out, nor will Fox and the BTN.

I can see the B1G meetings where the B1G schools leave Rutgers in the corner because they stink up the meeting room and push Maryland out the door for embarrassment they bring to the B1G.

Stall tactics.

Other than lacrosse it seems they already did that.
