Marrone did a heck of job after Gerg (aided by weak strength of schedules) but at the end of the day we couldn't hold onto Marrone.  If we'd had given him the same type of extension in year 3 with a huge buyout then at least we would have been compensated and maybe replaced him with a better coach than Shafer.  You knew early on Marrone could coach.  Regardless of record you can see some of the the same qualities in Dino.  (frankly I think part of why Marrone bolted was because he failed at recruiting and his window was going to close quickly.)
