Matt Park is the worst radio announcer ever

I'm a Doug Logan guy. Matt Park is better than OK, despite the hiccups, love the enthusiasm. Loved Mareiness, he was a howl. Logan was the best . BTW, I'll have to do my Logan impression for you folks at a tailgate sometime. I get compliments:D
Logan was good in many ways but he did this one thing that drove me crazy:
After a complete pass he would just bark "Caught!!" Then there'd be silence for about 3 seconds. I had no idea which team caught it, how long the play went for, or anything else. I had to figure out what I could from the next down and distance.

at least the worst one i have to subject myself to. The guys is just terrible at play by play. calling the yards gained, the down and distance etc. he’s terrible.

What made me insane Saturday was him jumping out of his seat screaming that (Rodney Williams I think) made an interception, only to be told 30 seconds later that LSU had in fact caught the ball and it was for a first down. smh

Park is terrible at football. Terrible. Better at hoops.

Was shocked they re-upped him a couple years ago. Thought he was in the midst of being ousted.

Not a fan of him doing football. Was surprised when he was kept after the incident. I also don't like that he calls Shafer "Shafe" even if that is what people call Shafer. He is a journalist not Shafer's friend, at worst he should be calling him Coach Shafe.

I'll toss in my ranking of the guys I've heard do SU football

1) Doug Logan - he wasn't great technically, but he was sooo enthusiastic and well, to be honest, an over the top homer. Still the best to listen to.. Too bad he was such a off the air.
2)Dave Pasch - he was solid, not flashy. He's gotten much better now, but he was very underappreciated when he was here.
3) Joel Mareiness - I grew up listening to Joel as a kid, came across as your drunk uncle, but the nice one, not the one who gave you nipple twisters and pink bellies. He was our version of Harry Carey.
4) Mark Johnson - Really forced his delivery, sounded like a guy trying to sound like a guy doing play by play. Luckiest guy on the planet to fall into a NC Championship call that should have been Logan's...but you can chalk that up a bit to karma.
5) Dave Cohen - Cohen did the SUper Sports replays on Sunday mornings on NewChannels / Timewarner sports back in the 80s-90s. He was okay - but it was TV.
6) Matt Park - marginal on the technical side, less than that on voice clarity and quality. Good thing he can schmooze.

I don't remember O'Donnell. Before my time.

Bill O'Donnell finished in the major leagues with the Orioles.

If you go back as far as ~'79, he got the assignment for the SU vs Temple game in the Palestra. That was probably Hal Cohen's best game.
(In fact, he may have won the Philly media award that year for best visiting player vs the Big Five). Another interesting tidbit of that game was that the feed was interrupted by a power outage caused by lightning.

I love Matt's enthusiasm and it does actually seem like he cares for Syracuse football which is nice but I was in the car for the dropped pass/intercepted/LSU completion play that someone that someone brought up and it was a cluster to listen to. I understand this is a very tough job but the call literally went like this "Harris throws, dropped, PICKED OFF BY SYRACUSE, no and it's an LSU first down at Syracuse's 45 yard line and they move the chains"

I don't think Matt is the worst by any means but yeah there could be some improvement.

Also I really miss Coach Mac as the color guy. Hearing him say Hell, damn and even a God Damn I'm pretty sure after Cuse would give up big plays was great.

I watched "Orange Squeeze" tonight, where they show an edited version of the game in about 15 minutes. I hadn't realized that Matt actually called Murphy's second field goal attempt "good" as it bounced off the upright. Chris Gedney said "not even close".

It wasn't Matt's best day.

Just old enough to remember O'Donnell. Man he was good. Like listening to butter. Going from him to Mareiness was like going from Vin Scully to Dizzy Dean, though not without some charm. Would see Joel once in awhile at the Snowflake Bakery. I believe Mareiness is still kicking it somewhere in East Syracuse. Someone please tell the story when he phoned in a basketball game.

Now that's funny. Perfect example of what I'm talking about. Thankfully I wasn't listening to the radio then I would've lost it.

lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I had to listen to the end of the Central Michigan game in the car and was going to swerve into oncoming traffic it was so frustrating to follow.

Can't stand Gedney.

I'll never forgive him regarding his commentary about one of our players during the Spring Game. He comes across like a real jack a$$.
BECAUSE HE IS. I was at a modified football game where Gedney's son was playing in and Gedney was throwing -Bombs at the coach. Parents in the stands were pissed at him,but Chris being Chris didn't give a hoot about it.
