Was watching "Around The Horn" tonight and apparently there is some talk in the NCAA world about moving the start of hoops season back a month or two so it will not conflict with football. Personally, I don't see this gaining any ground.

May Madness is for LAX
June Madness is for the CWS.

April is open.

If it happens, it won't happen for at least 6 years.

Turner could plug the NBA Playoffs during May Madness. Huge win for them if that ever happened.

It wouldn't hurt CBS/Turner as the tourney is only 2 weeks really. Turner/CBS would make the same money in ad revenue.

I don't mind this change but I don't see it happening. Starting the season in January would be interesting.

Smart move if you ask me. They don't want to compete against football at all. Make it a one semester sport. May is prime basketball time for the NBA anyway. As a basketball junkie I think it's a great move.

I know tv is why, I just think kids should get a semester off from travel.

Well, I doubt they will get a semester off. I bet big programs play scrimmages or something to stay in game shape. I think they could do other things like letting athletes take fewer classes in the heavy semester, giving them more weeks off during the calendar year, etc.

Anything that makes the season take that much longer to get here, plus taking away March Madness from my birthday(March 20) I am completely against.

Awful Idea. Hoops has tradition you start in the fall go all winter and have the tournaments as Spring is settling in.
There is just something about Fall and early college basketball.
And its perfect having December and the new years start the conference season. Of all sports college basketball is the one best scheduled. It starts just after Holloween, and runs throughout the holidays. Along with Football.
Tradition for fans of both sports.

Awful Idea. Anyone that thinks it needs to change needs to get out of the college basketball buisness alltogether.

You don't suppose the networks are baiting this change with $$$$$.

If this happens, it's entirely a money play.

They aren't even remotely thinking about the logistics for the people who actually RUN the day to day stuff for college sports. If this passes, and filters down beyond D1, it's going to be a nightmare for small schools. And yes, I'm looking at myself here as the SID of a D3 school who is literally the entire sports information department and has zero assistants and a tough time covering all home events as it is.

College Basketball is competing against football until the First Week of February. That means you really only get the casual fan interested in basketball the second half of the conference season in college and it's always been after the All Star break for the NBA. By starting later the goal is to attract the casual fan that had more interest in football, and build off of the NBA stretch run going at the same time. Not many people pay attention to baseball anymore before July so I think it's a perfect time for the season.

All sports should be contained in one semester.

Agree completely. Give the kids a semester to focus on academics. Give multi-sport athletes a chance to see what theyc an do in more than one sport. Play the Kenesaw States of the world when there are blizzards and play the ACC games in decent weather so everybody can get there and home safely.

The only one who will approve any change will be the tv networks. The NCAA can wish all they want but they need the networks to go along. Too much money involved.

this would be AWESOME!

the time from early april to late august is NBA and MLB regular season. The NBA isnt terrible and I can enjoy watching it - but in the NBA playoffs I am still thinking about how Tyler Ennis should have taken it to the hole or how much the NCAA sucks for over punishing us. And the MLB reg season is depressing to watch at this point.

Early May to late August sounds a lot better to me.

That's not the reason they are talking about this. CBS and Turner are pushing this forward. I mean what would be bad about having the Final 4 during Finals right?
Final 4 during (May) finals--you would only be interfering with 4 schools (8 if you count the NIT). At the end of the first semester (Dec), you have 327 teams playing as final exams loom.

Man, they really care about the student-athletes.
