Sitting here watching Arizona with hollis jefferson, tarzewcski, and Ashley as "upper classmen"

Many of these guys could have left last season but decided to come back. We are going to need some of our guys stick around if we want to be a dominant team in the coming years.

I know every big program loses guys early, but seems like if there is any inkling of an idea that one of our guys can leave, they're gone. Who was the last guy we had that had a chance to leave early for the draft and decided to come back? Seems like you may have to go way back to find one.

McCullough is a step in the right direction, but obviously that was injury related.

Am I wrong?

All those guys left the second they had the chance. For the record, I'm not saying they should or shouldn't have, just seems like we should be due for one of these types of guys to decide to stay

Fair enough, but not sure how realistic his chance of getting drafted after his junior year was since he went undrafted as a senior.

Honestly the last guy we had to return when he had a legit shot to get drafted that I can remember is Warrick.

Players get more exposure for Syracuse than for Arizona but not by that much that its the reason. Honestly, I don't know the answer. Little UConn guards stick around bc they're tiny but those Zona guys all could have left and would've if they were "Cuse guys".

Maybe they all get advice from the same people? Do the kids and/or parents get tired of JB? Definitely seems like we lose more guys that we shouldn't than most others.

Hell look at "One and done" U in Kentucky. Cauley stein, the harrisons, Poythress, and dakari Johnson all came back.

Strange.

I really feel like JB does a good job of getting the most out of our NBA caliber players. At least in a way to get their draft stock high.

IMO, Dakari Johnson made a mistake going to UK. He's got too much talent in front of him. He'd probably be off to the NBA this year if he came to Cuse.

I think as more highly recruited players committed to SU, they came here looking for the exposure, coaching to leave for the NBA.

Having players leave early for the NBA is an attraction for even more players who want to leave early for the NBA. We've had some great runs and publicity from the 2009 6OT game (helping Flynn to be drafted) , 2010 team, 2012 undefeated run, 2013 Final 4 run, 2014 undefeated run.. The only players that JB ever expressed apprehension about being drafted were Ennis and Grant.

And Donte...

In the last 6 years or so, 5* recruits at SU have a very poor track record in their frosh seasons. Ennis was the exception.

Yet in the last 6 years, besides Ennis, 5 other players have been drafted after their sophomore year and another after his junior year, his first at SU. An eighth player, McCollough was projected to be drafted if not injured.

None of those guys were going to be high picks. I doubt both Harrisons even get drafted. The others are projected as 2nd round picks. Stein really helped himself by staying. He was borderline 1st round last year and will be 5-7 this year.

yeah I agree

John Wallace before him.

As it turned out he had a much better chance after his Jr season in which he shot ~45% from deep.

One common thread: every one of those guys knew the program was under heavy NCAA scrutiny and the hammer could be dropped any moment, causing them to get Xmas'ed. Tennis and Grant got it right, the other guys probably didn't count on an 8 year investigation. This was just another 'unspoken' penalty the NCAA gave us.

Ok here is a dream; NCAA backs off by 1 scholarship per year. Thomas comes. Battle comes. And everybody decides to hang around for the 2016-17 season. Can you imagine JB's swan song with a roster with McCullough, Thomas, Richardson, Moyer and Battle? And the rest of the roster.

I don't think NBA teams rely on Sportscenter for scouting. Arizona is a top 10 program - they know who is recruited there and how they look. Maybe Arizona doesn't have the athletes like Syracuse has and are not as draftable. I think they go after the best "players" and not the best "athletes" like SU does.
