Horrible execution on the kick 2 weeks in a row. Maybe this is why, they screw around in practice with it instead of having the kickers actually practice executing a successful onside kick attempt.

Beyond the fact that it looks like they have never practiced an Onside Kick in their lives. This is basic stuff that after the horrible execution last week should have been worked on all week.

Maybe this is why:
They looked like they were fooling around but the onside kick attempts were not what I would be teaching.

The media is only allowed to watch the 1st 10 minutes of practice. Who knows what they work on when the cameras are turned off.

people seem to think onside kicks work all the time when the really dont.

Agree. Usually
You hope for a more challenging recovery Tho.

And to your point- why attempt it then?

i wouldnt have kicked it onsides.. but its not the wrong call since most here seem to want to play aggressive..

we had a shot to get the ball. we also had a shot to get the qb and the refs blew the spot and then we had a shot on 4th down.. but if the 2nd down spot is correct its 4th and 2 and they probably kick

My point was 2 weeks in a row we kicked the ball with no chance to recover the kick. I thought it was ironic that in the video the On side Kick looked like the ones in the game. I was sort of being sarcastic. But given the fact that the execution was horrible again and not even kicked remotely like you would expect an onside kick to be kicked (with some touch to get a few smaller bounces before it goes 10 then the higher bounce), it makes me wonder how much the kickers work on it. We use to screw around with this in high school trying to do it like we would see on TV. And it wasn't that hard to at least have the kicks look more like an onside kick than these 2 have.

The fact that the onside kick last week was not executed properly, may be due to the fact that it wasn't an onside kick. They weren't lined up for an onside, and the fact that Dino is on record stating that it was not an onside kick, but rather a botched pooch kick-off, leads me to believe it wasn't an onside kick.

There is an 18% chance of recovering an on side kick when the other team is expecting it. In short it is a very low percentage play.
