If the portal is open from Mid-March to Mid-April, and you want players in the portal to pick a new school by late May, what happens to kids who remove their name from the NBA Draft on May 29?

Can't expect kids who took the NBA feedback and decided they needed another year of college ball to get squeezed out.

The combine this year was May 12th to May 19th. - move it up a week to end around the 12th and decisions by May 15. Probably at least 95% of the players already know their answer between being invited to the combine or not, in addition to whether or not they are being even mentioned in the numerous predraft publications.With NIL offers vs GLeague 2024-2025 season salary minimum of $40,500 - these players have the facts they need to make a decision if they know they are seriously on the radar of the NBA or need to show improvement. They would have time from when they enter the transfer portal/NBA draft from Mid March till before the combine in mid May to weigh their NIL possibilities vs their NBA chances. Many players ask for feedback before even entering the draft.

Still doesn’t make sense. Each sports portal should only open for 30 days after the last game of that sport is played. I guess fall sports and spring sports could have 2 for practices during the offseason? Ideally each sport would only have 1.

Football 1 - January 15- February 15
Football 2 - June 1- July 1

Basketball 1 - April 15-May 15
Basketball 2 - July 1- August 1

Lacrosse 1 - June 1- July 1
Lacrosse 2 - December 1 - January 1

Is there a good reason the portal window can't wait until after the tournament?
Let every player have the opportunity to enter at the same time.
And let fans focus on the games.
Then close the portal and player transfer deadline after 30 or 45 days.
