The Alabama and LSU defenses don't give you much of a chance to be successful so you've got to be super efficient. McCarron was. Jefferson was very far from it. He should have been replaced early in the game.

As efficient as McCarron was, I think Wheedon would have torn them apart, but this us what we are left to deal with.

QB play has been LSU's weakness for the last four years. There is one QB who can run the ball, but struggles if he needs to throw downfield with any sort of accuracy. Plus, he had a real difficult time making decisions to throw the ball on time. Then there is the QB who has a great arm, and can hit receivers in stride. However, he's a bit of a sitting duck since he can't run, and has a tendency to panic when rushed. The most complete QB was the third stringer, but he's a redshirt freshman and there was no way the coaches would put him in instead of the two seniors, no matter what their deficiencies.

Jefferson was terrible tonight. Simply overmatched. Plus the play calling from the sideline was awful. How many times do you run the option and throw lateral passes before you figure out they won't work, and you need to throw the ball down field. Unfortunately, Jefferson couldn't do that either. At least late in game, let the other QB have a shot.

Congrats to Alabama though, what an awesome defense!

Jefferson may have done the worst job of running the option that I've ever seen. He was scared of getting hit by the Alabama defense (rational) and it showed. The fact that they kept trying to run it is just mind boggling - he didn't make the first defender commit to him before pitching it one single time the whole game.

their option play looked worse than our's in the blacksburg debacle in 99
