McCord

It didn't help that the Pitt game was the only CFB game on that night and Pitt was ranked. Lots of eyes on that game.
Was at that game, That was the first really hostile crowd we played all year. There were about 10 Orange fans there. Most everyone had been out to Vegas or the NCState the weeks before and not like people were trying to hit up the game on a Thursday night mid October. Sure there was a bye week in there but we still played 5 of 6 games on the road with Pitt right in the middle.

Terribly scheduled game and we caught Pitt at the top of the mountain before they crashed. Happens. I was impressed by the bounce back game. We won 2 OT games out of 4 games in October this year. That's crazy.

That definitely hurt. I had a few friends even here in KC that commented on it that would have never watched that game on a regular Saturday.

I continue to see the Pitt game mentioned, and I get it. But if memory serves every INT in that first half were tipped balls, which was freakish.

The other way to look at it is we competed in the first 6 games, the seventh game never happened, and then we competed in the last 6 games.

Guy has never played one snap in his life and thinks he knows everything about the game and players. Clown

But he provided some great theater in the 1994 draft.

I think of him more as a character than anything else. The personality, the hair. But now that the hair is going away.

Might be a top 10 moment in sports tv

To put the Int's in perspective, here is some data

Kyle is ranked 42 out of 81 P4 QBs (min 84 attempts) in turnover worthy plays. This would include any throws that should/could have been picked of but weren't. (this was slightly better than what it was at OSU, where he was actually below average in this category)

He was also ranked 15 in big time throws percentage (and #1 total big time throws) defined as 'a pass with excellent ball location and timing, generally thrown further down the field and/or into a tighter window' which could be thought of as higher risk thows that were completed. (this is much better than it was at OSU, where he was closer to average)

You would expect those rankings to be inversely correlated, as in the more tight windows he tries to put the ball, the more likely a turnover worthy throw. However he seemed to be able to generate a ton of completions into tight windows (more than literally every other QB) without topping the charts in 'likely turnovers'.

Yet both Miami and Colorado have softer schedules and McCord outplayed them both and led SU to an equal or better record and actually won his bowl game. Why would Sanders & Ward be projected that high if this were the case?

I think we spend time looking for why he should come back and use that to form our reasoning around something we don’t have insight into, the NFL draft.
Sanders and Ward demonstrate more physical ability.

picks and bad throws are different things. several were into tight windows but should still not have been picks.
It balances out. He also had throws that hit defenders in the hands that they dropped. I'm pretty sure he had one in the bowl game.

I couldn't understand why McCord would want another year in college. Until I saw Mel Kiper's latest ranking of the top 10 QBs in this draft -- and McCord wasn't included in the top 10.

I think he's 4th QB taken. Hell test we'll and improve his stock.

Gabriel is tiny and has a weak arm. Beck isn't good. Those guys will plummet.

Maybe 1 of the 3 guys still playing can shoot up draft boards ahead of him but that means he's 5th or 6th.

Leonard not being able to throw is laughable I think he's similar and equal to McCarthy. He might join the 3 at the top. Has had no draft buzz until recently though. I think the top 3 will be busted and other than Kyle he's the only good one in this draft.

Ewers stock drops every game but he's still alive and might win a title. He's also unlikely to leave and probably coming to the Dome next year as a Tar Heel. I doubt he's in this draft. Just way too much money to come back.

Howard was projected to go undrafed a couple of weeks ago. He might win it all and probably played his way into the 4th round. Doesn't have the upside McCord does. If he goes before Kyle I think the next team that wants a QB takes Kyle a few picks later. I don't really think he's good enough to make a 53 though outside this run. Hot at the right time.

UNC with Ewers vs. Syracuse with McCord -- ESPN GAME DAY AT CUSE???? Dome sold out? David Tyree doing the coin toss?

McCord has played in 2 different systems and started with success at both. Run happy and pass happy, which to me the GM's will parse down and add to that his interviews which Kyle will impress without doubt and he might surprise a lot of people on draft day..

NFL looks at arm talent and physical ability above all because they always think they can improve the other stuff.

The other stuff is the hardest to quantify because systems vary so much in college.

Those guys in the top 10 probably all have better arms and legs. He can pass some in interviews and film review but how many?

True and showcasing physical ability and arm talent goes alot further when you're playing higher caliber defenses.

I think McCord should get a real shot in the NFL but just playing devils advocate. If an NFL scout looks up the defenses he faced this year what's he going to see. Miami the highest ranked team we played all year has already canned their D Coordinator and was pretty awful all year in pass defense. That leaves what like BC, V Tech, UNLV. etc as the next best defenses we played.

If he can ball out next year against ND, Tenn, Clemson then he's really making a statement that he should be starting on Sundays. If not then playing the QB2 gig will still be there in 2026 for him anyway,

His NIL likely will be between $2-$3M. The avg for QB is over $3M in power 4 (because some are making $5-6m). That $12m is an avg for rounds 2-3. $10m is being conservative
Where’s are you getting $12m for 2nd/3rd rounders? Late first round picks get a 4yr-$12m deal. Late 2nd’s get about 4 for $6.5-7m and late 3rd 4 for $5.5-6m

DeVito is a classic example of getting and NFL shot because of arm talent. The coaches then limit his ability to mess things up play calling.
