Regarding how many top 50 defenses Kyle faced, here is your answer:

1) Ohio (10th)
2) Miami (27th)
3) Cal (36th)
4) Georgia Tech (42nd)
5) UConn (46th)
6) UNLV (49th)

BC was 55th and VT 57th.

It wasn't a gauntlet but it wasn't a stack of tomato cans either.

wait wait wait... we arent putting ohio and miami as the best 2 defenses we faced all season...

I think you proved my point more than yours. Throw out those non P5 teams. Then the rest of those defenses really aren’t scaring anyone. I assume next year we’ll face 4-5 top 25 and a few top 10 defenses.

I think if he stays, he becomes a Syracuse legend. If he goes, he might just be another late round qb flyer pick for a bad team. Stay and get paid more. Stay and build relationships with teammates, coaches, fans, the university and the community. Stay and be #2 behind Fran. Stay and captain your team. Stay and compete for the Heisman. Stay and win a national championship.

There’s more to it than accumulating yards. He has significant weaknesses that are going to limit his draft position. If they can be improved next year here and improve his draft position significantly, combined with at least equaling what he would expect at his current draft position, strong argument for one more year here.
Yep not to mention get big money, get a big insurance policy to protect for injury, be in the Heisman conversation, potentially lead the team to tje college football playoffs, and it all evens the scales quite a bit

Thorough analysis of his strengths and weaknesses here, projecting him as the 5th QB taken in the 4th round. This site has him behind Ward, Sanders, Milroe and Ewers - probably about his ceiling. Since he could also slip behind Beck and Howard, 4th round seems like a best case scenario. And fourth round money is not life-changing. at least compared to NIL. Compensation gets worse if he slips to rounds 5-7. I get that the lure of the NFL is powerful, but it is hardly a slam dunk for Kyle this cycle. "Seasoning" another year won't hurt him (e.g., Nix and Penix). Risk of injury is a dice roll either way. His stock could go down if he has a bad year, but he could also languish on the bench as QB 2 or 3 somewhere.

Thx!! That summary is excellent.

It really does highlight his smarts, reads & quick decision making, along w his accuracy.

And yes - he’s no threat to run, and only has average athleticism.

A decade ago he’s nearly a lock for first 2 days of the draft.
But now - mostly everybody wants an athletic freak dual-threat, who can make things happen w his legs when protection breaks down or coverage is too good.

Bottom line is none of us know anything and you never know where you’re going to get drafted or maybe not at all. There’s risks involved with any decision. One thing is for sure Kyle will probably have banked over $3 million at SU over two years. That limits your risks a little.
$3 million cash is a whole lot of risk management.

McCord, without making another penny in any other career (which seems unlikely) can invest $3 million in low risk dividend paying ETFs and get well over the equivalent of $100k salary.

It also will give him inflation protection and tax benefits so he can reinvest some of that annual income to continue to grow his base.

I broke down an idea of what "generational wealth" looks like at the lower limit in another thread. I concluded that $3 million saved in a brokerage account is perfectly adequate to live the rest of your own life, but you need at least double that to really start taking care of everybody around you.

But $3 million in the bank at 23 years old and decent NFL prospects ahead of you is a hell of a great start on life.

Athletes never believe they won't make the cut, so McCord may very well roll the dice on the NFL draft... But if I was his dad or his financial advisor, I'd advise him to take the sure thing NIL from Syracuse, go break a ton of records and ensure his personal financial well being permanently before even leaving college.

The NFL will still be there next year, and if it isn't, he'll still be rich.

I thought we had heard he was getting $800K this past year. And let's not forget about the tax bite on NIL.

but...you do realize how many 23 year old professional athletes making millions went broke ?
riches to rags. tale as old as time.

That might have been his up front guarantee... I don't have any information, just rumors.

However, unlike other programs that seem to be promising undeliverable amounts of NIL, I think McCord has done better than the initial promise.

The Terrell's deal, among others, looks to have materialized after he was already playing his way to superstardom.

Either way, McCord's second year deals, if he stays for that second year, will be significantly more lucrative. Especially with the University being able to guarantee funds directly.

*Seneca Falls
Seneca falls IS Bedford falls!
Just so happens that a good friend of yours is the one who started the whole entire thing out there with the Seneca Falls is the real Bedford Falls re it’s a wonderful life.

Someday I’ll bore you with the whole story.

Of course, while easy, living off $3 million does require fiscal responsibility that many (most?) 23 year olds don't have.

If McCord was my son, he would be feeling immense familial pressure to not squander his good fortune.

Many young men don't have that personal financial responsibility nor the family presence to help them make the right choices.

Many of my financial advisor clients had no concept of dealing with money. Some of them were perfectly competent people that had so much anxiety around money that they literally couldn't do simple math when asked to add up their monthly expenses and such simple things. Some literally spent every dollar that came in, and often used credit to create financial problems for themselves by not spending within their means.

But that's a very different topic from "How much money is enough money" which I was trying to answer. Especially as related to McCord's financial thought process in whether to accept another year of eligibility should it be granted.

It's wishful thinking to imagine that McCord's excellent decision making on the field would translate to financial decisions, though.

With all due respect to Kyle (who I've come to love), I'm a fan, I'm expected to be selfish. I want more Kyle!!
Agreed. Being a benevolent fan is great and all but acting as if it's an expectation is a bit silly imo.

I too want what's best for Kyle but I'm not going to wave my proverbial finger at a Syracuse football fan who unashamedly wants him to return.

LOL.

here is 2-3 million for next yr to postpone that thing that you've dreamt of your entire life (getting drafted and playing in the NFL) another season, and hopefully you don't get hurt or have a rough season and then have no opportunity of that dream at all.

come work for us (at the top level of the industry), we might hire you full time (you'll be on a roster for two/three years minimum and get a chance to win the top job since you're a top 5 college QB), we might hire you for minimum wage (not really minimum wage, its actually almost $1m a year)
