McCord

They still aren't. The University doesn't want money going to the NIL. They want it going to them.
That is changing to some degree. There will be some new announcements soon on fundraising efforts changing given college sports landscape.

We should be all in on a portal QB and strike a pro rated NIL assurance just in case McCord is back

You are so far off here. A coach's responsibility is to prepare his/her team to win games. That's it. There is no fiduciary responsibility to the athlete. "I don't want CJ to get hurt as he's the best QB we have. Kyle, you are better at taking snaps and kneeling down than [insert name of other option]. We need you."

Also, looking at these matters in hindsight is a massive slippery slope filled with what ifs and couldas.
Not really. You can’t look at player management as a historical concept in a vacuum with the NIL era. Putting the why’s and circumstances aside with Day’s decision, simple question - is McCord better off financially being able to play a 5th year and get a NIL deal or not?

"Listen, Kyle, you're our QB2. If CJ gets hurt it's your show the rest of the way. But we're not going to burn a year of eligibility for garbage time handoffs and a few passes, so now that you've played in four games, if we need mop up duty we're going to use QB3. You may not love this right now, but it's for your own good."

He basically threw half his passes (18) in his first appearance, and 3, 3, 6, and 8 in the next four. Miller threw 8 against Akron and 1, 2, and 3 in the next three.

This is very poorly managed. There is no reason to burn a game for two players to have them each throw 4-5 total passes if there's any danger in blowing a redshirt.

And imo if you're going to put a QB in for experience let him run the offense. It's not unsportsmanlike IMO if you're playing a bunch of backups.
You’ve clearly never played contact sports. :)

Putting the why’s and circumstances aside with Day’s decision, simple question - is McCord better off financially being able to play a 6th year and get a NIL deal or not?
Unfortunately I don’t think the answer to that question is going to be all that relevant to granting him another year.

Dude is either talking out his asz or misread a post. Nothing confirmed yet here or anywhere.
I believe he’s talking about PRJ’s post here.
The team party was scheduled last month for the 18th to allow the entire team to attend due to Christmas break.
McCord’s initial eligibility request was submitted the first week of spring camp and denied almost immediately. His appeal was filed in August, with an amendment mid November. The NCAA has until February 6 to review and file a decision on the appeal, February 7 is deadline for eligible athletes to make thier decision to return or become draft-eligible. The NCAA sub committee which reviews the filings concluded that there has to be gross negligence by the athletic institutions involved (Ohio St., SU) in regards to player participation and show beyond fair preponderance of law that it was detrimental to the student athlete.
Unfortunately McCord does not fall into this category. Playing time received is not a show of negligence on behalf of the university and its proxy (Ryan Day). There was no ill-intent by playing an eligible athlete in a game.
That being said, ultimately Kyle and Syracuse are going to be denied a 5th year. However, his case and 40 plus similar cases have pushed the governing body Committee members to vote next year to make wide spread rule changes for all Division I sports to allow for 5 years eligibility.
I see where PJR believes Syracuse has been denied, but I don’t know if anyone has actually confirmed yet. The confirmation will be when Kyle signs an agent or we get a QB out of the transfer portal, whichever comes first.

I don't think that's how the law works. Of course anyone can sue anyone for anything, but you can't get a financial civil judgement for following rules and procedures reasonably and accurately and then have those procedures change in the future. The whole point of civil liability is what did the person or organization do wrong? What did NCAA or OSU do wrong? He still could be granted an extra year by the NCAA, but civil liability seems off the table.

People seem to be focusing on a civil lawsuit, but I think the real issue at hand is that the NCAA was, basically, caught running a cartel recently, and there is still a *ton* of stuff that hasn't been sorted out yet based on how SCOTUS ruled. I have to imagine they are more worried about Kyle's situation becoming an exhibit in a huge antitrust case than they are about getting individually sued by him, e.g.:
Is The NCAA Not Only A Cartel, But Also An Inefficient One?

Hello. Let’s get off politics. What does this mean?
Huh? how is this political? I was responding to someone asking if we had an answer yet. I misread Jake's post, so my reponse was wrong.

Yeah the difference in a late round pick (~$4M over four years) and mid first round pick ($18M over four years, option for fifth) is MASSIVE. Plus the NIL, there's a very real chance that coming back makes McCord $20M over the next five years instead of $4M over five.
Lunacy speculation

Isn't he asking for a 5th year? Not a 6th year?

In mine and your imagination, the Salters signing with Colorado announcement was so quick because of this.
Didn’t Colorado already sign a highly rated qb. Juju or something.

Sure hoping we do get a clear announcement one way or the other soon, so that we can pursue a Portal Transfer confidently before they are all committed. The good ones are making decisions...
