McCord

Just to shift this back to McCord, I want to mention how much I appreciate what he’s done for our program this year.

One has to go back a long way to find a player who’s lifted our profile and status to the same extent.

Respect Kyle immensely.

Amen. We were out in SD and saw Kyle several times in team hotel. He always had his iPad with him. He never stops looking at film. Great leader who clearly set a key tone for the team last offseason too. If he’s gone we need to replace the leadership from losing guys like him, JB, Wax etc. it’ll be interesting to see who steps up. Lequint hopefully stays and is one of them.

It makes no sense for Kyle to file a lawsuit when he can still go make money in the NFL. If it drags he's gone.
It makes total sense. His draft stock is not as high as others. That is partially the purpose of the incoming 5 in 5 rule. Give players 5 years of eligibility for 5 years of school. They can earn NIL in all 5 seasons. Kyle’s NIL deal will be worth more than his potential NIL income in 2025 with a chance to increase his draft stock and earn a better pro contract the following year.

The issue is these are completely hypothetical numbers. What if our collective can't offer him $2m? What if he gets hurt next year and doesn't get a UDFA deal?
It seems clear from what I've read here that he can get $1.5M+ if not $2M here.

If I was in his position, and had the NFL scouts telling me I'd be a 4th/5th rounder in this draft, which is one of the weakest at QB in recent memory, I'd leave. Because the closer you get to that draft, all of the sudden that 4th/5th round grade becomes a 3rd if you play the press game right.
If we want to play hypotheticals about playing the press game right, if he comes back and puts together a season at all similar to this one and plays the press game right, he's a top 10 pick.

The problem next year is the schedule. It is going be alot harder to put the numbers he put up this year.

But if he thinks he’s a top draft pick, which he does, that schedule doesn’t scare him.

Either way, it’s a long road ahead to get the NCAA to approve this and I honestly don’t expect them too.
IMO he should dive right in and embrace the draft. I think he will be great up close working with NFL staffs. I selfishly want another season but Cuse could also desperately use an alum at the QB spot in the pros.

This is an important point on schedule. If you're the NFL scout evaluating talent you won't just look at the stats and the wins this year. My orange colored glasses love that we got 10 wins and are ranked. Rest of the world is looking at how the ACC played out and laughing right now though.

Reality is we did not play a top defense all year and if we just look at Pass Defenses I'm not sure we saw a top 50 secondary either. Most of our schedule was actually just flat out bad with their pass defense.

If he really wants to improve his draft stock he needs to win games against a legit pass defenses. Next year if he's picking apart secondary's with 4 star DBs at Tenn and ND or road games at Clemson and SMU that will skyrocket him up the draft board.

Not taking anything away from McCord because I think he's a better QB than projections show or these other guys on the draft board ahead of him. It's just going to be hard as a scout not to look at the metrics of who we played and how bad their secondary's were this year.

Yet both Miami and Colorado have softer schedules and McCord outplayed them both and led SU to an equal or better record and actually won his bowl game. Why would Sanders & Ward be projected that high if this were the case?

I think we spend time looking for why he should come back and use that to form our reasoning around something we don’t have insight into, the NFL draft.

One thing that would bother me if I was the NCAA is McCord saying that he would like the option of either returning to college or going to the NFL. I'm sure that is true. But if you are asking the NCAA to go out on a limb for you, change the way they have always done things, Why on earth would they do that if you were to turn around and go to the NFL anyway? They would just be setting themselves up to be appealed again and again by other guys.

I actually think it’s better for the NCAA. I mean right now they are forcing him to go to the NFL. By saying they gave me the option he is presenting them in a far better light IMHO.

Unless he thinks it’s going to get denied and which case he’s setting it up so he can just head to the NFL and not make the NCAA look bad.

I think the above is accurate. All this talk about irrevocable harm, getting injured, I don't think players view things through that lens.

Kyle probably has zero concern that he would come back and not perform well, no matter who is on the schedule. He might actually view playing those kind of teams as a big opportunity to elevate his stick by showing out against high-level competition instead of as something that could harm his rep.

Throwing back shoulder stuff does not mean the ball did not come out early.

He made quick decisions. The game it hurt him was the Pitt game. The Stan INT was also a throw made early and when the TE went the wrong way it cost us the game

We have never had a QB make as many early decision throws as this year. Its what killed Shrader more than anything because he waited to see guys come open and then lollipop it out there.

Kyle trusts his pre-snap reads so throws get to good spots faster for sure. In the Pros the windows are even smaller but at least he does that pre-snap stuff well.

Devito had the opp issue. A better arm but so slow to make the throw and that led to more bad decisions and sacks. Much the same on the Giants. Un willing to go to the better decision throws and then hoping a good lane opens up but with bad pass blocking it just breaks down,

Kyle took the 3-7 yds routes which is never bad and took the better shots when they were safer to throw most of the time.

Like the bowl game deep shot he hit when they knew the safety was gone from that play

Exactly. He also knows we’re going to upgrade our OL and work on the running game. Way too many games we just had a non functional running game this year and were one dimensional.

First year HC and OC as well that got taken to school a little in the bye weeks.

Schedule gets a lot harder next year but we also may even be better offensively than we were this year. It just may look more balanced.

We could be better on offense next year and still have lesser results.

The quality of competition is going to be much higher than this season.

I look forward to improvement on the offensive line, but the receivers and tight ends are losing key players. Running back will hopefully have Allen back and a Willis with a year of experience under his belt, so should be better as well.

on the ACC All-Access pre-season Cuse episode Kyle was in a golf cart with teammates playing golf (Maybe Barron?) Someone made a Star Wars reference and Kyle admitted he’d never seen any Star Wars films because as a kid all he did was watch football film.

At that moment I realized he was a cut above.

Freakin’ loved having that kid lead our program. I really hope he comes back.

Usually I only watch SU and the Bills football so I don't really watch the other "talented" quarterbacks. After watching numerous bowl games this past week, I can really appreciate Kyle's intelligence and pocket awareness. It's crazy how much more in control he is than guys like Sanders and Ward.
We've been spoiled this year and I hope Fran keeps spoiling us in the future.
If Kyle comes back and we have a better defense and special teams, we will be extremely hard to beat.

It’s so true. That was a great reference on that episode. He just eats sleeps and plays football. It’s what he loves.

There is no way he doesn't fly up boards between now and the draft. Late 2nd early 3rd just bc teams are obsessed with mobile QBs and all the current elite guys do have wheels. A decade ago he goes 1st round no questions asked.

McCord is really great in the 10-20 yard area. That tends to translate at the next level. He’s probably going to need a good line to succeed though where some of the elite guys do not.

That is what makes him unique in the draft class in that he was everything you could’ve asked for a decade ago. Hopefully the program that takes McCord allows him to hold the leadership role that he did at Cuse because that seems to be what brings out the best in him and the program. He has franchise QB vibes.

I think Kyle should come back if he’s allowed.

Just to be clear, that has nothing to do with looking out for Kyle’s best interests. Not my job.

Has everything to do with best interests of the program and fanbase.

I could make up some elaborate rationalization to the contrary, but it would be utter bull dung.
