McCord

The one thing that doesn't seem to get mentioned is that Kyle said a couple of months ago on Cuse Sports Talk that he's not eager to take classes again if he does come back.

I'm paraphrasing but he said something along those lines. Graduate classes would be tough.
He just has to enroll. Won’t really have to attend. Season is over before the end of the semester. The only issue would be CFP eligibility.

Didnt bo nix just work as a grad assistant full time w the football program at oregon

With OSU McCord seemed tentative and worried about making a mistake but at SU he was confident and knew Fran was behind him even after the Pitt debacle. This, to me, is why it may depend on what team he goes to. That said, hopefully he learned from both experiences and flourishes at the next level.

I'm sure the NFL will ask him about this as well, I know would if I were a GM.
I agree with this so much. In general fans underestimate how important self confidence is for athletes. I always think about free throws in basketball. Teams that shoot 65% from the line in games don’t do that in practice, they shoot 80-85% in practice. The ability is there to do the physical task, it’s generally the mentality that is missing.

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel 6 Years and 63 games played. Age 24

Syracuse QB Kyle McCord 4 Years and 37 games played. Age 22

NCAA says sorry Kyle rules are rules. We just can’t have these old players like you trying to play college football forever.
Dillon had a COVID year and then an injury that ended a year early. I hope Kyle gets another year as much as anyone, but all due respect, I don't think you're trying very hard to see the difference in some of these examples you point out.

i would bet most teams shoot 95% ft's in practice.

Did you see chris bells numbers on hundreds of shots from 3? he was over 90%.

That's fair, but it's also fair to compare players that had the opportunity to play a lot more times over more years to point out the inequities in the rule.

26 more games played in college. I’m just giving the #’s.

Most FT practice is all about the shot/form

But FTs in games are something you may do 1-2 or 5-6 times a game, not 20-30 in a row like in practice

Now you can sim some of that in Practice if you pull guys out and shoot after running around.

Actually giving players that covid year where most schools Actually played sets the NCAA up for a lawsuit which the courts would rule against them.
They gave a group of players a 5th year to play so you have to give all players in following years a 5th year.
The courts won't buy the nonsense of a covid year, when so many teams did play.

I always cringe when adults scream and yell at these young players , they are the same ones who go ballistic if anyone makes a sound around them when golfing or bowling etc. Try critiquing their own play in games that have no importance to 99.9% people even around them - they would go off the rails. The “normal person” has no idea of these kids own personal expectations less the pressure of performing and executing in front of thousands.

NIL and the increase of fan betting understandably will only increase the pressure and the critiquing of players. There’s a good and a bad to most everything.

Yeah but Kyle had a braindead moron coach blow his redshirt, that should win out, dammit

Covid and the shut down was a real thing and courts would see it as an exception.

You are deciding what you want and then twisting and/or omitting important facts to fit your already preconceived desires.

Other people are actually looking at the facts objectively and then using facts/data to then form an opinion.

I just took the ESPN article. You can blame me if you want but there's QB's out there in the Playoff right now bragging about how they got to play 26 more college games than most other players.

It’s mentioned in this interview that there’s a section of NCAA rules that has an exception for when coaches blow a year for a player (as Ohio State did) but those coaches didn’t know they were blowing the year of eligibility. Which might be why Ohio State included a statement with Kyles application/appeal for another year.

Seems like an important exception and haven’t seen it listed here (and I’m not reading NCAA rules to verify it)

I believe that’s the entire basis of the appeal. Pretty sure why the school got extra legal help on this too.
