McCord

I didn't even know about the suspension/ DUI thing from another player in Ohio State. It also has opinions from people who were once involved with NCAA appeals. I haven't seen either of that in this thread and I've read almost all the pages I think.

That's an interesting point. Here is the game log for the kid who got the DWI.

Here's McCord's.

McCord was playing just as much through the point in the season where the Miller kid was suspended (which occurred around November 5). Day would need to attest that he would not have played McCord in the MSU game on November 20 but for the fact that Miller was not available. That's unlikely though. Miller was already reinstated. Ohio State reinstates QB Miller after suspension .

I think this point is probably a loser though. There was likely no intention to ever redshirt Kyle. He started the Akron game and Ewers, who was the more highly coveted prospect, was already redshirting.

If the 3rd QB Jack Miller was reinstated from his DUI 2 days earlier, I don't understand why Day didn't play Miler to preserve McCord's shirt. That is just dumb by Day and probably started any issues he has with Day. OSU gains absolutely nothing out of playing him in a 4th quarter blow out game instead of playing Jack Miller and for McCord certainly losing a season of eligibility was much worse than any experience he gained in that game. How are you not prepped for that moment to happen?

He should get another year on the grounds his coach was a dumbass and screwed him. And that was out of his control.

I heard that Miller had told the coaches he was transferring out already by that game so the coaches did it to preserve his year of eligibility vs McCord’s.:(

That makes no sense. They want to preserve a year of the kid who is leaving instead of McCord? And McCord was the younger player who got more reps and pass attempts so you have to think McCord was the one they would want to preserve his year.

I agree but that’s what I heard, Maybe Miller refused to play or they were forcing him out? He announced his transfer just days later.

Or maybe Day just looked at it as a way to get his backup (McCord) more experience heading into the game against Michigan and the CFP? You're looking at this with three years of hindsight as a Kyle/SU fan.

It's hard to make a case that Day's a dummy. First, his record belies any such contention. Second, his responsibility is to act in the best interest of his football program, not necessarily Kyle's. Unfortunately, there were instances where what was in OSU's best interest and Kyle's best interest were not the same. That's not an inadvertent decision, based on bad information, or outside of the player's control. #2's play when #1's rest - that's pretty universal.

It doesnt matter anyway. It appears the appeal was granted another and Kyle will have another year of eligibility (yay Kyle and SU!). My guess is it's a fundamental fairness determination based on the impending 5 to play 5 rule taking effect. That's the least slippery slope for the NCAA to grant the appeal on.

Was that the 5th game he played in that season?

What really mattered is what Ryan Day put on the letter, and what the NCAA thought of it. If he says it was a mistake, are they going to call him a liar?

Anyway we have multiple sources saying they bought it. We just have to sit tight for an announcement, as hard as that is.

I have no idea if that is true but boy would that make a compelling argument, as Day signed off on something according to many. If he is on record saying he made a mistake, was negligent etc I think there may be grounds.

It could, but you don't know if that's the reason the NCAA granted the appeal. Multiple sources say the appeal was granted. The reasons why though are unknown at this time.

I struggle to believe Day would admit such a thing or that it is true. Day might have attested that he felt compelled to burn Kyle's redshirt because Ewers was already redshirting and Miller had advised he was leaving the program. In other words, he had no choice but to play Kyle.

But that's not true either because there were walkons or he could have just kept Stroud in the game.

When you’re in charge of a big operation, what seems like minor decisions at the moment can have bigger consequences down the line. Especially on something that doesn’t really make sense, I don’t think its hard to believe it was an honest mistake.

At that point in the game, given the situation, they could’ve easily snapped to a running back under center if they wanted. But we can say that from hindsight.

Also, not many knew that the QB ahead of him was arrested and that is why he played the 5th game. That is a total game changer for any on of the naysayers!
But it's not, we all believe his appeal was granted and now we see if he chooses the NFL or another year at SU. I'm confused with all the dislikes of my post as this appears to be the case and the article is already outdated

Nobody knows for sure if the appeal has been granted. Yes, people on this forum have indicated as such. I have spoke with people close to the university who have said that isn't true. I am NOT saying one is right and one is wrong, all I am saying is there has been no formal announcement. Until that happens everything is speculation. I will tell you, I believe that it has been approved, but its just opinion. Reading about the arrest was still news to me and I have followed this story very closely. You can't say the article is outdated based on speculation, that isn't fair to Chris Carlson who wrote a great article. And if you believe it has already been approved, all the article does is further secure your belief.

McAfee Says P4 QB's are getting a chunk more this year compared to last year... And there is the "double-dip" happening at the NIL-rich schools...
