The first 10 games, I was thrilled with how consistently pretty good he was.

The last three, he has a qb rating of 196.

In his last 6 games, he has more yards than arob had in his career
In his last 5 games, he has more TD than arob
In his last 10, more TD than RJ Anderson

8th in career yards
More career yards than Nunes, Devito, Hurley, Hunt

7th in career TD
10th in career attempts

McCord has 20% more attempts per game than the guy who has the tenth most attempts per game in the country this year

It’s hard to compare qbs with so many variables. I do think this is the best offense I recall in orange. These guys were close to unstoppable and McCord was the keystone. I wish we’d had a defense to complement them, but the offense was consistently clutch. McCord, Allen, Gadsden, Peña, and Meeks were a joy to watch and I’ll remember them fondly. Dungey and Shrader performed many miracles, but I EXPECTED this offense to succeed more so than any I recall, and Bill Hurley was my first favorite SU qb. The amazing part is that Fran et al contrived this offense in one year. Kudos to Fran, Nixon, the players, and especially the offense. You guys made it fun to be a fan again, looking forward to next season. Thank you sincerely from this fan…

You finally admit he’s good ?

Last 3 games: 87-117 (74.4%); 1,303 yards and 10 TD’s to 0 INT’s. Pretty damn good I’d say.

Extrapolated: That’s 434/game for 5,642 total with 43 TD. That’s run away Heisman Trophy material.

McCord’s largely unrecognized super power was tapping into the talents of others and spreading the ball around. I believe there is an unhealthy over fixation on finding a No. 1 receiver and feeding that player. But McCord amply fed four talented players, largely to equal measures: Gadsden, Meeks, LQA and Peña.

Remarkable and it should not go unnoticed by NFL scouts. That took the offense up 2-3 notches. And it also shows he can make all the throws.

(Nixon deserves some shine on this end too!!)

No. The RB almost set the single season yards record and carried his team to the playoffs and still lost. Gimmick 2 way player was always winning it and its fair enough I can't really remember anyone playing starters minutes both ways at a top FBS school in the last few decades. Even Woodson took way less snaps at WR.

Glad he has the record and we got to 10 wins. I think hes ready to be really good at the next level and beat out anyone for a roster spot and if he goes to a team without an elite starter get that job. Would love another year and a shot to win some of these near automatic loss games we have on the schedule.

I hope someone here is learning from Nixon to take over

"Everyone eats" is the way to go.

Leach's idea of balance was all your skill players getting the ball, more receivers than carriers so you should accordingly have more passes

The Heisman buzz will be strong if he gets to come back

This is a stupid post
Pretty easy to search
You did call McCord “consistently alright” nine games into the season. Which is not a crime, it just surprised me, because for about the last 15-20 years, you’ve harped/plead and begged for an offense and a trigger man like McCord.

Then he arrived and, using your own words and a time stamp, it took you almost three months to recognize how elite he was. Yes, he/we led the nation in pass attempts, but the reason we did that was because of his excellence. And then he delivered. And he delivered in high leverage situations. Nine of our 13 games were one score contests. There was not much time for number padding this season.

Hard to judge how good this O was. The level of competition wasn't great. Just looking at the PYPG ranks we faced...

56th VA Tech
59th Miami
62nd Ohio
71st Cal
75th UConn
78th GA Tech
86th UNLV
95th NC State
116th BC
119th Pitt
124th Washington State
129th Stanford

Now part of those low rankings is these teams playing SU. We should get credit for that.

Looking at next year's teams...

3rd Notre Dame
28th Tennessee
38th Duke
66th Clemson
82nd SMU
100th UNC (pre Belichick)
Plus Miami, UConn, GA Tech, BC, Pitt again

While I agree in large part, SU gained a lot of yards this year and scored on a lot of possessions. That’s not all attributable to the weakness of opposing defenses. If SU’s defense had played better overall this year, we’d have gotten a better test of the offense in the playoffs. Many of our greatest QBs have been great runners, extending plays that allowed the offense to flourish. McCord didn’t need to do that to succeed. He makes quick reads and is accurate, but we had numerous playmakers for him to get the ball to, and they made few drops. Allen’s all purpose yards make him one of our all time greats. “Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.” Both would be nice for next year…

He is great in all games but Pitt game. Pitt is good at Voodoo.

Most quarterbacks are not consistently alright.
He played well enough to win almost every game. Most quarterbacks aren't that consistent
Until the last three games, he never had great efficiency per pass.
Having a high floor per game helps your team greatly.

i said this all the post you quoted

here's the whole post in case anyone is curious

I am admittedly quibbling with one word, which is stupid on my end. But you asked(!) and “alright” is the definition of average and McCord was never average. The guys was either damn good, strong, terrific or stellar every game sans Pitt this year.

Was he at his best the last three games? Yes. That’s obvious. But he was consistently better than anyone we’d ever seen in this program through the season’s initial nine games too. I saw it early and appreciated every minute of the journey. I do not think I was the only one.

Don’t forget Gill who had more yards than Allen.

A guy who alternates between 120 and 200 rating will have a better overall rating that someone who is always at 150 but you're going to lose almost all of the games where your qb is at 120 and you're going to win almost all the games where your qb is at 150

being consistently good enough is a very good thing

Michael Johnson Jr. finished the year with a higher rating than McCord.

Pitt was Nixon's fault. Pitt had figured out our quick passing, forced it to a speed we weren't comfortable with and jumped McCord's back shoulder short passes. Nixon didn't adjust to Pitt's scheme until it was too late.

Frankly I’m dissapointed in all of you for not daydreaming about the type of numbers Billy Sharr would have put up in this offense
