So McD spent a week with the Falcons before this season. How does that work? Does he have an "in" with some guys there? Did he have to pay them? Do NFL teams regularly allow their coaches to take time out to talk with college guys during normal day-to-day operations?

If he's going to go somewhere to get input, advice, and strategy, I hope he goes a couple hours west on the Thruway next time.

this stuff happens regularly. when chip kelly was at oregon, he used to go work with the patriots.

Nothing against Doug, the Bills, or the Hackett, but I don't want McDonald learning their offensive methodology... I'd prefer he go train with NO or someone with an electric offense. Doug's system works for him, but too many times it allows the other team to remain in the game.

You mean the New Orleans offense of which Doug Marrone was the Offensive Coordinator from 2006-2008?

He never called plays, but yes, that same offense. Would be cool with him talking with Chip Kelly and the Eagles as well. Chip's offensive strategies seem to align better with McD's plan as we've seen it.

I don't think McDonald needs a new system. He needs input on how to use the existing one effectively. In-game flow, and especially any flaws that may exist in creating matchup problems and getting playmakers the ball in space. Marrone is a really smart guy in that regard.

So a tune-up, basically. Accelerate the learning process.

He knows Dirk Koetter through the coaching cycles.

I think once he gets the pieces he wants in place we will all be singing a different tune about his offense. He's not a 3 plays for a first down type of coach and appears to want bigger chunks with each play. Once he gets his guys in we'll realize he's the guy we've long been asking for to take advantage of the fast track that is the dome.
