I didn't think he has looked lazy while playing, though I think MCW was talking about him taking the ball up strong and finishing strong. Maybe that's what those reports were hinting at while he was in HS. He has seemed active in the previous two games. Didn't notice a lack of effort really.

I think he didn't mean lazy, per se. More like soft.

Good that they recognize strengths and weaknesses and aren't afraid to mention them.

Ummmm ... I'm sure he said it with a smile. Not good idea to call a teammate "lazy"on TV ... or did I miss some context?

I don't think it was any sort of putdown. I think it was more along the lines of "he has the tendency to get lazy down there, so I was glad he threw it down"

It took Rick Jackson almost 4 years to learn how to go up strong. Hopefully this won't be the case with Xmas.

You are over analyzing. 18 year old kid (or thereabouts) talking. At that age the words don't pass through the brain first for editing.

Well, there was the play where Xmas got the ball down low, dribbled before taking it up and was stripped. They threw him the ball again down low almost immediately (off an inbounds, if I recall correctly), and Xmas kept the ball high and dunked with authority. I think that's more what he's talking about, 'lazy habits'.

I remember the sequence you're speaking of, and that wasn't the case. Christmas brought the ball down again but there was nobody around to get it stripped the second time.

Bad habit that he's going to need to break if he wants to be effective inside.

Said the same thing while watching last night. That's something I've liked about Melo so far this year, he's kept the ball high and goes right up with it. Can't stand when bigs put it on the floor first.

All good reasons aside, he shouldn't of said that. I love MCW but I don't want my good buddy calling me lazy in the media. Hopefully its a non issue.

Here's the excerpt from the Post Standard article:
After Carter-Williams found Rakeem Christmas all alone underneath the basket and Christmas converted that pass by slamming it through the rim, Carter-Williams swung his fist in a show of boyish enthusiasm. The Orange led 53-44 after Christmas sank the free throw and completed the 3-point play.
“I was just thrilled that he finished it strong,” Carter-Williams said. “He’s a great player but sometimes he’s a little bit lazy. That play, he finished it strong, got the and-1. It was kind of a momentum-changer in the game, so I was really happy. It’s just a great feeling when you make a pass to your teammate and they finish it.”

What an absolutely refreshing attitude. This is one big reason we will see a lot of MCW this year. He understands what a PG is all about.

i love mcw's comments sounds kinda like a coach out there. hes gonna be special

MCW just telling it like it is. He and Rak are buddies and hopefully he knows how to push his buttons and motivate Rak. I think we are seeing a great leader in the making.

I'm most excited about MCW's willingness to play defense and his length at the top of the zone. With his shooting ability and all his other skills, if he can even approximate Andy Rautins' defensive effectiveness up there, I can entertain hopes for a reprise of the 2010 team that was so beautiful to watch. Certainly he'll have a great ensemble cast to work with in this and the coming years. Sounds like a great kid.-VBOF

dont want to make something out of nothing because it is nothing ... but mcw needs to learn to filter comments like that which need context and shouldnt be made to the press. chalkin it to frosh mistakes.

This is so much ado about nothing, IMHO.
Its a bunch of adults on a message board over-analyzing an innocent statement directed towards a teammate.
Read in context, MCW said nothing unusual & certainly Rak's probably heard the same thing from coaches, etc.
He DOES need to be strong, and SHOULD go for the "and-1" every time he gets it down low. So...:noidea:
