MCW - Eastern Conference POTW

I've never seen so much improvement in one year. Has anyone considered that the improvement might still continue and we co uld be looking at an all time great?

I'm going to hold off on going that far for a sec. Right now he is playing great basektball but let's wait to see if he can adapt as defenses and offensive players begin to adapt to him.

It's not uncommon for a power hitter from the minor leagues to jack a few homeruns and hit for a strong average in his first few weeks or month in the Big Leagues. Then, pitchers figure out his strengths and weaknesses and the production drops. The same holds true for most sports, including basketball.

That said, I'm loving the way he is playing right now and it's nice to see him thrive in a basketball environment more suited to his playing style (NBA vs college). I hope he keeps it up and earns a long career.

I think he can be a star player in the league. He sure has started out that way. If he can sure up his shooting and be cinsistent with it throughout his career then he can be great IMO. The shooting makes it hard to take away what he is good at.

I'm with you man, but his start is almost unprecedented, so there has to be something to be it (at least I hope!). He won't keep up this pace obviously, but he made an early statement that he definitely belongs in this league.

Lets just enjoy now, and hope for the best later.

His strengths are that he is a 6'6 point guard with insane vision. Its not like teams can scout him and make him shorter while taking away his eyesight.

They are working on it though . . . . . . . . same guys who are working on making Lebron unathletic.

Well they can at least force him right (he's shooting about 5% from the right side of the field versus over 50% from the left, and change the way they defend the MCW/Hawes pick and pop that has been so deadly so far. Little things like that. He's still getting caught in the air too much.

Having said that, I think most posters here know how high I was on MCW as an NBA prospect, so I think he'll be able to counter the adjustments eventually.

His best games were when JSIII was shooting lights out. It opened the court for him to operate. I think eventually the league will figure out that they need to tighten in on him and get physical. That could be the equalizer.

I think Deron Williams vs Chris Paul. DWill has always had success against CP3 cause he would body up and bang him around. DWill would take Chris Paul's speed out of play. Of course Chris Paul isn't 6'6 either so as MCW continues to mature he should get stronger and smarter.

His game was built for the NBA.

In college teams like L'ville could molest him, and hand check him to death. In the NBA you can't touch a guy. Combine that with other defensive restrictions, plus the wider floor, and it fits his game perfectly. His game has always been attacking the rim and making plays, and now he can do that unmolested. With his size and athleticism, it's almost impossible for guards to check him without doing what college teams did. His defense always was, and always will be a strength, and that's not even factored into his offensive numbers. I feel even better now about him being a much better pro then college player.

Seems to be struggling against Golden State and Curry. Just looking at the stats. Hope it is just a blip. Or they come from behind.

Warriors in beast mode and man when the Sixers look bad...they look bad lol. Iguodala is just stupid right now.

His shot is off and he's made a lot of bad passes. Nothing that Golden State is doing, he's just making bad decisions. Warriors also playing near flawless aside from some turnovers.

Watched the first half.

MCW started good but I think he's been frustrated a bit by Curry. He can't touch him and he's been crossed over a few times. Shot has been off and his teammates have completed fallen apart.

The 2nd team looks awful and everyone else lost their cool. MCW stopped playing defense completely during a few fast breaks.

Lots of growing up to do. But I'm more concerned about the 76ers in general, than I am about MCW.

An NBA example would be Brandon Jennings. He had 55 points in one of his first games, and even beyond that he had a bunch of 25-30 point games in his first month. He hasn't scored at that level since, even though he's a pretty good player.

MCW's start has been incredible. He'll have his bad shooting games, but he should contribute across the board even when his shot is off.

Really interested to see how strong MCW and Oladipo continue to play. I didn't think Oladipo could play PG at this level. His drives with the explosion and tough layup buckets were pretty sick the other night. Probably a two man race? It's definitely not going to be Bennett. He looks awful, lol.

Man, Golden State is SCARY when they are rolling. Definitely don't think the Sixers are the only team they'll do this to.

Curry is a really tough matchup for anyone. It was time for mcw to come back to earth. Games like this I think say more about him not being a jennings or lin blip. He went up against a team that can get blistering hot from 3 and that is just what gs did. If we learned anything last year about mcw its that he does well to forget bad games quickly.

Yeah, saw the highlight reel from the first three games. He hit alot of tough shots on the move and in traffic. I thought to myself at the time that this is not necessarily an indication of his future star status in the league. Right now, he's a player who's got his shot and confidence going. Big thing for him is to maintain his confidence when things aren't going as well. We saw that he has a tendency to fall into slumps, especially with his shot. If he can shorten the length of those inevitable slumps, he can be a star.

Also, he is now on everyone's radar. He was the hottest thing in the NBA going into this game.
