Miami Offside Play

Who else thought that was intentional? It was like 2nd and 3. It seemed likely we were going to get a first down which would have burned another 40+ seconds per play. So you jump offsides, give us the first down and save 40+ seconds. Teams have been doing that by putting 12 on the field to draw a penalty. I’m ok with that but blowing up an OL guy…..such a UM move.

Nah, it was a boneheaded play. The guy was mad at himself after. They needed to get a 3-and-out so giving another first down was a killer.

But don't you erase the 40 second gain by giving us another down? Not sure I see the benefit of giving us a first down.

No. Because it’s second and short, you avoid a play (or even two) because it’s going to be first and 10 eventually. So just fast forward and get there to save time. That’s the theory. I’ve seen several coaches do it late in games recently by putting 12 men on the field defensively.

Yeah I think it was definitely intentional, they had to do that cause of Allen's superb running on first down that drive.
