Miami/Syracuse 1992 Preview

I'll never forget that day - the carrier dome was packed long before kickoff, then when team entered the tunnel the crowd exploded, I think the coaches held the team in the tunnel to let crowd build its hysteria, it's was so awesome. Man what a difference to today. Oh, it was a great football ga,e as well.

after reading that I feel like I must be in the twilight zone of unreality thinking (it's been SO long) was that ever really reality...:bang::mad:
this what the pro SS guys who say that if we beat BC, then his job is safe dont get.

we all remember doing shots of lighter fluid, chasing it with gasoline for a few hours tailgating and still being sober...as we headed into a sold out Dome on national tv as we absolutely Fn mattered and the whole country wanted to see what we could do v the elite of the elite.

now if we back up a 3-9 season with a 4-8 we are all supposed to be happy that the good ship pool party keeps his job??....

Sadly, not sure we ever see those days again. We were just about the only show in town in the Northeast at that time. Too much competition for recruits now. Maybe we hire the perfect coach or catch lightning in a bottle with a QB recruit, but that's my only hope.

You have to remember.

It took a long, long time to get to 1992.

I sat in Archbold - in the rain mostly - from 1968 to 1978 watching some bad football.

And then from 1980 until about halfway through 1986 I sat in the Carrier Dome and watched some bad to mediocre football.

The breakthrough of course came in 1987.

But it took nearly twenty years to get there.

Those who support Shafer are encouraging patience and the positive impact of program stability.

I think under the circumstances - given the recent addition of money and the IPF - and the ACC - he merits more time.

I fell out of my wheelchair in front of the tv when Gedney ended up short. I still get excited for every Syracuse game, but not quite to that level. I can't wait to get back to that level of passion and excitement when I'm watching Syracuse football.

That's crap.

Temple is 7-1 and is ranked, and played one of the top teams in the country to a near draw on national TV in one of those games that is mentioned above.

Toledo is ranked.

Boise State is competing at a national level and has over the last 5-10 years.

Syracuse has not been ranked since 2001.

There is no way that any of those three schools should be ahead of Syracuse University when it comes to football. Absolutely none.

Not that I disagree with you in terms of Syracuse should never be worse than those teams, but, the first two teams you mention are proving a portion of his point.

To an extent, you're right. But Temple football won 8, 9 & 8 games in three straight seasons from 2009-11. Yes, playing against MAC schools - but we haven't done that since McNabb.

Toledo has been ranked in the top 25 three times since we have been. With one less coach.

Syracuse football can get back to prominence - I see no reason why it can't, given that these schools have done it with A) less of an infrastructure and B) less resources.

We used to only compete with Penn State for recruits. We lost more recruiting battles than we won, but we were #2 in the pecking order of Northeast football which was ok because we still landed quality athletes. Some would consider B.C., but Rutgers and Temple were a complete afterthought for recruits. The problem now is, Penn State still gets the best recruits, but we aren't #2 in the pecking order any more. Hell, we probably will be competing with Temple for recruits now as well. It's just getting harder and harder.
