The young thing is irrelevant. Whether he's 12 or 72, with the role he has there is a certain level of responsibility that is required and that transcends age. He has a tendency to pull things into his reports that show "the other side of the coin" as I like to call it, perhaps to try to give the reader the impression that he is impartial. Often these tidbits are not well researched and thrown in for their surface value. A great example is the article that he wrote on Corey Cooper not qualifying then tossing in towards the end that he had been previously committed to Louisville to create doubt in the reader on Corey ever coming to SU. He did an interview with Corey where he gained quotes for the article, felt the need to mention the Louisville thing, but never bothered to ask Corey about what happened with Louisville to get his side of it. That I consider to be lazy reporting at best, at worst it's manipulating facts to lead the reader into a conclusion that you want them to come to and personally I don't care for that. That's just one example and he's done it in other articles, his "zingers" he tends to feel the need to throw in. Also, getting back to responsibility, the whole situation with him posting rumors on twitter about AJ Long was completely irresponsible, and regardless of who he was posting that to or for what purpose, it's a public forum and he needs to respect that and act with some level or restraint unless his info is rock solid. Even if it is, posting stuff like that is not going to endear him to the staff or help him get access to the program - something I definitely want from a beat reporter. I don't want someone with limited access because they can't grasp when it's appropriate to put a filter on. This isn't CNN. He's not reporting on political corruption. His writing ability is fine (to me that's not the issue), his reporting is questionable at best, he's irresponsible, and his tone is that of someone who is incredibly arrogant and smug. The criticism has more to do than just with writing ability.
