This has always bothered me. For years people have talked about how Izzo schedules difficult teams at the start of the season to prepare for the tournament. They were the first #1 seed to go down so how did losing their first two games work out?

Was just listening to Doug Gottlieb as he defended MSU's season, (paraphrasing) "too many times, people judge a teams season on how they did in the tournament. Did MSU have a good season? Heck yes they had a great season"!

All the talking heads picked us to be the first #1 seed to fall, but it was MSU going down first. I wonder how Doug would have spun our season had we lost.?

Thoughts?

To anyone praising Izzo for his scheduling habits, I would offer up Cincy's schedule and point out that they made it just as far this year.

Never felt MSU made those FFs because they were battle tested. It's because they have a great coach.

With those guards and center, I thought the over-acheived in a big way this season.

I think Doug would've said the same thing about us. He said the same thing about a ton of teams on the podcast from this Monday. (That they had a great season despite losing early in the tournament).

I don't disagree with the theory that the schedule may not be a great help and is not the reason for their success.

But to point to the results of this year's tourney as a fact to support the theory is absurd, given Michigan St's past results

They were the weakest one seed and the weakest Michigan State #1 seed team Izzo has brought to the dance. Don't forget that they also lost a key player to injury before the tournament. No surprise they went down first. However, you can't blame commentators for picking us to be the first #1 seed out after Melo was lost.

Izzo has gone out in the first round four times in addtion to making those 6 Final Fours. Remember Pitino losing to Morehead State last year, (and all the snickering that went with that?). There's no magic formula for success in the tournament.

They couldn't handle Norfolk State...but now we're sure they'd destroy Louisville? Wow..

Norfolk State shot the lights out and would have defeated a lot of good teams that day. I watched plenty of Mizzou and Louisville this year and Mizzou was far and away the better team. The Cardinals would have been a great matchup for them.

I wanted to see Missouri- Florida. That would would have exciting to watch. Styles make fights.
