When it comes to Syracuse, Gottlieb can't help himself. He goes into full blown Rain Man mode, "Syracuse doesn't belong," "Syracuse doesn't belong," "Syracuse doesn't belong." The dude just ain't hooked up right.

Gottlieb on Dan Patrick was in rare form yesterday. Took the stance, I'm right about Syracuse, them winning and going to the Final Four means nothing. Dan Patrick was like really. And then he went on to say fans would rather come after me and get more joy over that than they do enjoying their team winning games.

He made it all about himself. He said he texted Boehiem after they won to congratulate them and Jimmy B is sarcastic but he can't take a "good busting chops" anymore like he used too.

Gottlieb is an utter fool and the more he talks the more he is hurting his own TV career. You can't be this wrong and defiant about it without showing any humility. Seth Davis is humble about it when he picks us to lose and is wrong. He has fun with it. It's almost tongue and cheek now. With Doug it isn't.

He's staking out his ground as the top media villian/asshat, and as long as people are talking about him and reacting to everything he says or writes, it won't hurt his career a bit.

People have talked about Doug Gottlieb more during this tournament, almost exclusively because of his Syracuse stance, than probably at any point in his career.

All his bosses/potential bosses would care about is that people listen to him, which they obviously do. Makes no difference why they listen and respond.

I think that's true to a point. Eventually your "hot take" followed by digging in will get people to turn on you. It can hurt your credibility. We win it all and he's still riding that train? He'll be seen much differently.

Sports Pope is right. Gottlieb is going down on Titanic and will never admit he is wrong. Espiecally when it involves the Syracuse Orange.

The exact reasons why Gottlieb felt we deserved to be out in 2007. The exact reasons not any different are why we got in this year and now this ahole who wants attention because he is an awful radio host creates strawman's to fit his argument. Just losing to St. John's is not enough of a reason to miss the tournament.

The 5 of 6 stuff is just utter stupidity. We played 5 of the top 6 ACC teams on the road and finished 9-9 and had the non-conference wins. Enough with this stupidity. I bleeping hate how false perceptions win in the Court of Public Opinion instead of the actual facts.

More foolish was one of the characters on Around the Horn yesterday who said Syracuse getting in was wrong because it left out teams with great records like Monmouth!
Why can't any of these jerks look at the whole season and gauge their comments accordingly?

I do agree with the idea that us winning in the tournament should have no impact on whether or not we deserved our slot. Having said that, I didn't think we'd make it at the time, but after I started looking at more of the other resumes, it seemed to me that we had a very strong case after all; the bubble was incredibly weak this year.

This is exactly it. Our resume compared to this years group of bubble teams easily has us in. Other years probably not but this year its quite obvious that we deserving of an at large bid.

So many on here thought we were 50/50 to make the tournament. Some thought we were completely out of it. Regardless of how you look at it, we did not do enough in the regular season to feel like we were a lock. But we got in, end of story thats all that matters.

As for the idea that our success should change Doug's view is kind of insane. If you didn't think we belonged on selection sunday, no level of success should change that view. He isn't saying we couldn't play well or compete, he is saying he didn't think our regular season resume was enough to warrant an at large bid. To change that view would be completely disingenuous and quite frankly it would mean he was flip flopping, which you would hope is a worse offense than sticking with your original position. I know Doug plays into it, but the reason this conversation continues is because people cant come to grips with the fact that his belief that they didn't earn a spot and their performance have zero to do with each other.

And this is from a guy who cannot stand Doug

I wish I ran into D.Gottlieb in an elevator because I would simply ask him, name 5 teams more deserving than SU to get into the Tourney. We were the 30th of 34 at-large teams to get into the Tourney. If SMU and Louisville were eligible, okay. I get that. But even with them in, we still would have made it (likely in a First 4 game). Bonaventure? No? St. Mary's? Likely not (on what grounds?) Valpo? South Carolina ('d listen, but no). Arkansas? Sorry, who did they beat.

I'll say this and I think this is where Gottlieb is hanging his hat, but it does not quite fit. This was a very weak bubble year. Among the weakest. There are a lot of years in the last decade where our 19-13, 9-9 resume would NOT have earned an at-large. But this year, we were comfortably in. Sorry Doug, we timed our "pedestrian" regular season perfectly. Was that a tactical decision? No. But it was the reality of the bubble scenario at hand. I like Gottlieb in some ways. He calls it like he sees it.

Runs like ours are an argument for expanding the field. Coach says it all the time, there are teams left out every year that are capable of doing damage in the tournament. Frankly this should be line that Dougie runs with instead of hating on us.

Hmm, I feel the exact opposite way, despite our amazing run.

I think the sport would benefit more from placing more value on the regular season. The bar for entry to the playoffs of any sport should be way more than "hey, they could go on a run..."

Teams capable of doing damage in the tournament is alot different than making final 4. Monmouth or st bonnies might win a game or 2 but thats it, thats why a team like cuse that has proven all year they can play and compete with the best teams in the country and have 5 top 50 wins and close road losses to two #1 seeds deserve it over a mid major. Monmouth would lose by 30 to gonzaga now.

I would replace "People" with "Syracuse Fans". I think outside of Central NY this is a non-story honestly.
