I feel right now he has the potential to be second team all acc as a senior two years from now. But, I could see him knocking on the door at a first team nomination, it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

If he refines his pull up off the dribble, he could be really good. imo a taller, slightly quicker brandon triche with more shooting range and rebounding potential(6'7).

It is hard to guess his ceiling, but I do expect a lot from him next year. And I am among the small minority of people who think he will do well at the point guard position in the future. I also think his outside shooting will improve dramatically.

Agree, I could see his outside shot being more comfortable then a senior kjo in the next few years.

One of the beautiful things is we can play him at guard or forward wherever the mismatch is for his dribble drive. We want to be able to do the same with BJ in the longrun, if his lateral defense supports it.

As for positions though, I am all for throwing postions in the halfcourt out the window in a few years.
With Cooney Gbinije Dajuan seniors, BJ, Roberson (if hes still around), Kaleb (soph)McCullough(if hes still around). Malachi, Howard, Lydon (atleast one of them should be ready to score as a fresh). At worst case scenerio that should be atleast 6 good scorers.

Mark this down.

I honestly believe he could lead next years team in scoring. I think his ceiling, with his athleticism is a 14-16 point per game scorer.

Others don't see it, thats fine.

This is my prediction.

He needs to find one position and stick with it. He's not a PG. He's not a natural three in our defense. I think his best position is a two that we don't have to rely on as a consistent deep threat.

Get him attacking the rim, adding size to the top of the zone. He does a lot of things ok, but not anything great. Simplify it for him.

gbinije is a versatile player that can sort of play 3 positions. he doesn't have a skill set that is clearly defined, he has good size but he is not a + athlete. i think his future will be determined by intangibles. he will be one of the oldest players on the team next year, can he have an andy rautins like effect? can he make clutch shots? if he can be a leader and show high bball IQ, he could be a fantastic "bridge" player for this group if you will. but in theory he will have to outplay younger more talented players.

I'd say that's a stretch. I'd take 8-10 points, 4-5 boards, and 3-4 assists in a heartbeat.

But yes, he has good form on his shot.
He does, but tends to shoot sometimes on the way down which is a MAJOR problem

How can anyone say he is just a glue guy? He was forced into roles due to lack of depth this year and did as best he could.

Next year he should be given much more room for error and should feel more comfortable. I think next year will be a much better time to measure MG's upside than this year.

You answered your own question. He does not have a defined role, and never excelled at any one thing. Glue guy, who hopefully can average 10 ppg.

a nice player. Nothing more.

That to me is one of his problems...he is a nice player and that makes him tentative and not as aggressive as he should be.

When you guess Gbinije's role/potential, you are also guessing how ready Kaleb Joseph will be to start at PG and how ready Johnson & McCullough will be to play significant minutes at a forward spot.

Question marks for each of those 3.

I see Gbinije in a big role, scoring double figures. By necessity.

Me too. I think his ceiling is somewhere in the 7-10 points per game range.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'm thinking he's more Ryan Blackwell [i.e., role player] than Wes Johnson.

Would love to be wrong about that, but I just don't see the high scoring potential that some suggest. He seems much more like a glue guy than a primary scorer. JMO.

I like G a lot and think he's a very critical part of our team, but I just don't see him ever putting up the necessary stats to be All-ACC first or second team. With 15 teams, all of which have their star who puts up numbers, there just aren't a lot of spots.

I think G will be an early 2nd round draft pick after his Senior season. Really, all he has to do is improve his ball security and he's golden. He has the athleticism and size to finish at the rim and go by his defender (if he can figure out how to bring the ball with him). He has good form on his jumper, which can improve with playing time and confidence. I also really like the flashes of his personality on the court that we got to see. He looks like a competitor, to me, who can really shine when provided the opportunity.

His ceiling is truly going to be limited by playing time. Cooney is likely going to be the starter the rest of his career, so it depends on how short Cooney's leash is and how willing Boeheim is to play G out of position at PG or SF.

I don't think he is near as talented as Ryan Blackwell.

for past player comparisons, I keep coming back to Todd Burgan or Scoop. Todd was a point forward, Scoop was of course a PG. As G rotates between these positions, I see him being less of a capable PG than Scoop, he is not nearly the distributor Scoop was, but he shoots better, and he is a bit undersized for forward like Burgan was, but otherwise similar game. I do not see him leading in scoring, or first or second team anything, and that is not a dig at all, I just don't think he breaks out to be a focus of the offense, but he helps in many ways. K Jo is another good comparison, but Kris was 1st team BE in 2012 and I think that is expecting too much of G.

He impressed me not last year. Neither did Patterson. Did not really see enough of BJ or Roberson to form a personal opinion.
