In 2019, he was awarded the New York sportswriter of the year. He is one of only three non nyc writers to win the award. Well, he just won the Jim O'Connell award. It is a national award for beat coverage. Mike does a great job and we are very lucky to have him. And Donna as well.

Mike is one of the best in the business. We’re lucky he’s called CNY home and the PS hasn’t screwed him over. He’s a fantastic guy in addition to being a great reporter. He went out of his way to be helpful and nice to young reporters like myself at the DO covering the team too. Always enjoyed talking hoops with him at practice.

Met him at the ABCD camp one Summer. Extremely nice guy. Hope he has a lot more years as the SU beat reporter.

He's the 3rd winner of this award. First two were awarded posthumously. Hope Mike lives a long life. Great job coming from the "outside" to cover a big program but he understood it coming from UNC. Amazing his continuity. Thanks Mike.

For a period of about 10 years when I was living in the midwest I would call Mike on a weekly basis and talk cuse hoops. Couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Whenever I was in cuse for a game or even on the road I'd make sure to stop by after the game to say hi. Great guy and absolute straight shooter.
