He has an awesome stadium and locker room to sell at that school. Great facilities. The team is terrible, though. Its good for Syracuse, don't we play them atleast once more in the next few years?

He's somewhat of a feel-good story... firing him would be bad PR. If he has to go, he'll resign. He hasn't been there long enough for them to fire him; the program has to be rebuilt completely; he can't recruit without the appearance of administrative support.

they didn't need to fire him, but they also didn't need to extend him. the school has already showed that they support him by hiring him in the first place. why would he ever resign and leave money on the table?

They extended him for 2 years. He had a 5 year contract, this one is for 7 years and replaces the previous contract (it is effective December 2010). In reality, the original contract negotiations weren't even finished yet. While completing the language of the contract they added 2 years. I suspect that MN really likes Jerry, realizes that this is a complete rebuilding job, and want to give him every opportunity to succeed. For more details I suggest that you contact Joel Maturi.
