Which team is that? The one we beat in the Texas Bowl in the last minute or the one that beat us in the regular season last year?

I don't think they're hot doodoo either but until we beat them convincingly ...

Did you watch the Texas Bowl? It never should have even been that close ... we let them hang around .. they had no business being within two scores of us let alone 1 ... that team is putrid ... yep we lost to them last year and then turned our season around ... do you feel the job he is doing is worthy of an extension and a raise based on what you are seeing on the field?

He was 500 in conference and 8-5 during the season. That's isn't fantastic, but it isn't bad, either. Given that Minn isn't exactly a football hot bed, I think that he's doing pretty well. If would be on thing if he was at Wisconsin, Nebraska, PSU, PSU, Michigan, or Michigan State, but he's at Minnesota. Keep that in mind.

Yeah and ask Glenn Mason what a record like that gets you in Minny .. keep that in mind ... that their OOC was a joke ... Mason went 64-57 there .. Kill 17-21 ... I can't believe I even have to explain this.

They Were One Punt Return Away From Beating Us.

I suppose this in't entirely fair but the entire staff struck me as doughy.

Would I pay that man two million dollars to coach my team? Maybe not, but Kill has crappy facilities and weather and heavy recruiting competition in his neck of the woods hampering his ability to be successful. So, maybe 8-5 is worth that much 'round there ...

If you are Minnesota, he's not the kind of coach you fire. And if you're not going to fire him, you might just as well build him up.

I don't know, they've been known to fire guys when they're running in place.

Tough to figure out where that program wants to go, although I'm sure many have said the same about us since the turn of the century.

They need an overhaul on offense.

Tell that to Tubby Smith.

Well they're a top 5 athletics department since 1980 so they probably know what they're doing...

During the season Minnesota went on a 4 game winning streak within the conference beating #18/19 Northwestern 20-17 on the road, #21/27 Nebraska 34-23, Indiana 42-39 on the road and Penn State 24-10. Guess they hadn't done anything like that in ages. However, they ended the season on a 3 game skid losing to #17/22Wisconsin 20-7 at home, #13 MSU 14-3 on the road & then us 21-17 in the Texas Bowl.

We lost to both Penn State 23-17 at Met Life & Northwestern 48-27 on the road.

Can't be upset with losses to Michigan State or Wisconsin.

The fact is that Kill has done a very good job.

He is very highly regarded and deserves the extension.

The game never should have been that close .. they were only in it due to two blown coverages ... hell their QB was so bad he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat ... they had no business being in that game. You take away those two god awful breakdowns and we out gain them by 150 yards easily. For most of the game they couldn't do much of anything. We were up 14-3 going in quarter number 4 .. we had dominated 75% of that game ... am I the only one that saw it?

Anyone who watched the Texas Bowl should realize that by the 20th post in this thread there should be multiple interrup...

OH MY GOD!!! JERRY KILL IS ON THE SIDELINES!!!!

You're mistaken, that's actually a hard boiled egg with a headset, glasses and a sweatshirt.

I do agree with you.

It appeared that we were the stronger team.

But covering people is part of the game - playing smart, effective defense is part of the game.

The Gophers manipulated our DBs pretty well and scored two long TDs as a result.

We could have very easily lost that game.

Minny is not awful - it is a solid Big Ten team - beating them was a plus for us.

And, you can't discount what Kill has done there.

17-21 and he won't get to .500 next year ... I most certainly can ... in his last 4 years Glen Mason was 10 games over .500 and went to four bowl games and was fired. The B1G is not what people make it out to be ... the B1G went 2-5 in their bowl games and continues to be overvalued ... they caugh NW in a tailspin without Coulter and Mark, and did against PSU what we failed to do ... win the turnover battle, had we accomplished that we would have beaten PSU ... still had a shot to down the stretch. I really don't care how they finished in the B1G if you watched that bowl game and came away impressed with their squad then I can only respond with ...

Our bowl game never should have been close and with Wilkes moving on I don't expect to see those coverage breakdowns continue ... they had no business even having a shot to beat SU ... you also seem to forget we had to take abnormal risks due to our FG kicking situation ... we hit a couple chippys early instead of a miss and forcing the offense to go for it on 4th down we don't even need that TD in the end and our lead is even more solid ... sorry don't feel what he has done is worthy of an extension and raise .. they went down this road with Mason and canned him and based on the on field product I don't see them doing much next season. Cobb is their lone bright spot on O ... their QB situation is a train wreck and Kill made terrible in game adjustments.

I agree again that the University should never have fired Glen Mason. That was a huge mistake in my opinion.

But that really has nothing to do with Kill.

And, frankly all this "woulda, shoulda" stuff is simply the difference between winning and losing at the college and professional levels.

The teams that execute generally win and the ones that don't generally lose. Complaining about what we should have done against Pitt or PSU is really beside the point. We didn't and we lost.

The fact is that Kill's team played well this year - they beat good programs.

And using your analysis, his team has every right to proclaim that the Gophers "should have" beaten SU in the Texas Bowl - if they had just covered the punt and had just covered the QB draw they would have won the game.

Kill is very highly regarded - he and his staff have turned around multiple programs.

He deserves the extension,
