they thrive on one-on-one matchups driving by their defenders, usually spreading the floor. they're ultraquick and invariably have their way with teams trying to play tight man on them.

I have many fond memories of Big 12 schools being vexed by the 2-3 in '03!

They could still dribble drive against the zone but I don't see any big boyz they can dump it to inside. Inside D could handle it. Wing defenders would need to stay with their men/area. Also don't see Mizzou with a big who could do anything from the foul line.

Last I checked, Marquette doesn't have any big boyz they can drive and dump it to inside, and they've far quite well against SU. I don't think this is a good matchup at all. They can shoot it well from 3, and everyone on offense can attack the basket (think 4 DJO's). Plus they have a pretty aggressive man-to-man D, and SU don't exactly have the best handles. I'd be very happy to never play them.

ya, its a big 12 thing, I remember in '03 watching the Oklahoma State game with my dad, we were down like 17 and I noticed the lead was slowly on us starting slow and that they had no clue what was going on against the zone, I said at the time we are gonna win this game big and sure enough...

Then if possible a 1 seed Oklahoma looked even worse , it was like they were going against Michael J Fox after he went Teen Wolf, they just stood around looking lost and scared.

And while Texas looked a little better, and Kansas after that, it was apparent no one in that conference had played even a passable 2-3 the entire year and they were dumbfounded.

Kansas had too much talent to lose big to anyone that year, but the zone won us that championship (well having Carmelo didn't hurt any either)

And dare I say it... But Craig Forth in the middle of the zone was terrific at directing the zone and keeping it balanced, yes Craig Forth!!!!

When I watch Mizzou, I think they would struggle against the zone... but they might make up for it with the amount of Off rebounds and 50/50 balls they would get. That team is ALL hustle. We don't really have a lot of guys that like to hit the floor for a loose ball.

I agree, plus their pressure over play d would force our offense to make plays and SU would struggle a lot half court wise.

Our pretty style doesn't always fare well against those in-your-shorts defensive teams. I will gladly take this matchup however, in the NCAA Championship game.

Mizzu has multiple shooters and all of those guys can also drive the ball. They could really hurt us driving to the FT line and making plays. Ratliff almost never misses. We would have to have a good game defensively and also make them pay for pushing up on us and over playing the ball.
They have a lot of smart players that handle the ball for them and they play hard. Impressive team IMO doesn't mean we cannot beat them but they are a team i wouldn't mind avoiding.

Anyone else notice the last play of the Mizzou-UT game? Texas player drives the right baseline and pulls up for an 8-footer. It sure looks like he gets karate chopped, to the extent that he can't get his shooting arm above his shoulder. (It's right in front of the Texas bench, and Barnes goes crazy.)

But the announcers, let alone the folks back in studio, hardly mention it. Even though 2 free throws wins the game for Texas. Seems like it should be as big a deal as a missed goal tending call.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing them on the other side of a bracket. Pressey makes great decisions as well and is very quick. Their hustle and scrappy factor mentioned above is another reason I wouldn't want to see them.

Agree 100% and I'd love to face them then!

Dang sorry I missed that . . . . Texas was down 10 late and my wife was bugging me to watch "Cake Boss" or some such rediculousness. I gave her the remote and fell asleep 2min later.

Blatent karate chopp on the shooting arm ehh?

i think mizzou is a final four team. assuming we get a 1 seed i would not wanna seem them as the 2 in our bracket. but considering we always seem to get beat by teams that slow it down and control tempo maybe we're better off playing a run and gun team.

I don't understand how people can get memories of these games so horribly confused -- we fell behind by 17 because of the zone... that was a classic trunk monkey rescue.

And while Texas looked better, and Kansas after that... the zone won us that championship
We outscored Texas. Neither team played any defense in that game. Auburn and Kansas? We just blitzed them the 1st half. The rest was protecting a lead.

The zone as some secret weapon in March is a comical myth... and I'm not sure who keeps clinging to that... outside of our little world, Syracuse is synonymous with underachievement in the NCAA. 30-1 regular season will be forgotten and virtually meaningless if there's another flame out.

Yea, Okie State was a lot of trunk monkey and sending Melo to the bench to get his head right. He was trying to shoot us out of the game early... Edelin saved the day.

The NCAA's is a bit of a crapshoot and when your big guns struggle or are in foul trouble you have to have some players like Edelin that can step up. I wouldn't be surprised if we play Missouri 4 times that we'd split 2-2.

they simply would not be able to run their offense against us how they would want to. they would have to modify it significantly. and they thrive, almost as much as us, in getting up and down the court - which would play right into our hands. Ratliff is their inside presence. sure they'd hit some 3s and get some penetration into the zone. but I'd welcome a matchup with mizzou.

Might Score but can't Press SU, Pressey's Father and Nolan Richardson @ Tulsa give me agita We could have won that N.I.T Championship if we had enough players left at the end of the Game. That N.I.T. Championship gave Nolan Richardson a place in the Trivia Record Books What Coach won a Championship on 3 Levels?
