Haven't been able to find this anywhere but I am assuming with the change in the MLB playoff format this year and a one game play in for the wild card the scheduling rule that precludes a team with the best record from opening against the wild card team if they are in the same division is abolished. Seems like retaining it would be unworkable from a scheduling perspective. In addition there is potentially a HUGE advantage for the top seed since the wild card participants would use their #1 starter in the play in game if available. Can anyone confirm?
