The ACC article, or maybe another I just read, says the decision on what divisions SU and Pitt will be placed in, will be made in February. If it is true that the ACC will keep the existing divisions and add Pitt to one and SU to the other, what is the best outcome for Syracuse? I think the best thing that could happen is to be assigned to the Atlantic. ATLANTIC DIVISION School Conference Pct. Overall Pct. Clemson 6-2 .750 10-3 .769 Florida State 5-3 .625 8-4 .667 Wake Forest 5-3 .625 6-6 .500 NC State 4-4 .50el0 7-5 .583 Boston College 3-5 .375 4-8 .333 Maryland 1-7 .125 2-10 .167 COASTAL DIVISION School Conference Pct. Overall Pct. Virginia Tech 7-1 .875 11-2 .846 Georgia Tech 5-3 .625 8-4 .667 Virginia 5-3 .625 8-4 .667 North Carolina 3-5 .375 7-5 .583 Miami 3-5 .375 6-6 .500 Duke 1-7 .125 3-9 .250 Why? We would play BC each year in football, a relatively weak team and the closest school in the ACC to Syracuse. Pitt would presumably be our crossover rival. Another school relatively close by that we have a long history with. For me, the next most desirable team to play each season would be VT or UMd. I'd love to play both each season but if push came to shove, I would rather play UMd. It is a shorter drive, we have a better fan base in the DC area, they have a good hoops team that could fill in for GTown and we have a better chance of beating them than VT. Lastly, Clemson and Florida State are great road trips and NC State and Wake are located close to a large alum area, are beatable football programs and are easy to get to from CNY. It is a nice mix...there is a lot to like about our setup for football in the Atlantic. (Note that the expectations are that the divisions will continue to open be used for football). Thoughts?
