"Living on the edge caught up with Syracuse late in the season as the Orange finally suffered a few losses. His ejection against Duke aside, Jim Boeheim has guided Syracuse masterfully this season and has a team capable of making a deep push. Long criticized for never winning a title, Boeheim is now a towering presence in the tourney.

The mystery team is No. 3 seed Syracuse. Which team shows up for Jim Boeheim? The one that started 25-0 or the one that finished 2-5? With their zone, the Orange is difficult to play against. A year ago, Syracuse wasn't exactly lighting it up entering the tournament and ended up in the Final Four.

MAC's image hurts UT, WMU rankings

In the South Regional and No. 2 Kansas meets up with No. 3 Syracuse. That dream matchup would pit good friends Andrew Wiggins and Tyler Ennis — potentially Canada’s biggest impact players in international competition for the next decade or more — up against each other. They’ll meet next year in the NBA, after Wiggins, of Vaughan, Ont., likely goes No. 1 overall and Ennis, of Brampton, goes in the top 10 to another team, but could clash before that. They’ve played together for Canada and for the CIA Bounce AAU basketball powerhouse and are very close, but they’d be enemies for a day if this matchup came to pass.

Both schools are reeling, losing some games lately and Kansas will be without star centre Joel Embiid for an uncertain period of time, but both are good enough to win the two games necessary to set up the Sweet 16 showcase game in Memphis.

Both Wiggins and Ennis were named as finalists for the Wooden Award handed out to the NCAA’s top player, quite a feat, considering both are true freshman tasked with doing everything for their respective clubs.

Syracuse's Tyler Ennis Hits Miracle Buzzer Beater | ACC Must See Moment of the Year Candidate

Capsules

Syracuse (18): A month ago, Syracuse would have belonged among the title threats -- if not further up our list. But after a 25-0 start, the Orange have collapsed down the stretch, failing to score more than a point per possession in six straight games (including against NC State's woeful defense in Greensboro last week). Tyler Ennis, C.J. Fair and Jerami Grant are an awfully good core. But until the Orange find their scoring touch, who knows?
ESPN

Five Players to Watch

Tyler Ennis, Syracuse: Yes, the Orange continue to struggle (Jim Boeheim’s squad has lost three of its past four), but when the program surged to the No. 1 ranking earlier this season, Ennis was the catalyst to the rise. He hit clutch shots and controlled games, especially down the stretch. He’s averaging 12.7 PPG, 5.6 APG and 2.1 SPG. If Syracuse regains its old form somehow, Ennis will probably be responsible for that recovery.

Most likely to make it to Memphis

And Syracuse will regain its mojo and end up there, too.

On Cinderalla's Upsetting higher seeds

Says Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, the victim of the first 15-2 upset in 1991: "It happens because, for the last 10, 15, 20 years, those smaller schools think they can win — even more so now. The pressure kind of goes to the favored team.

"It's difficult. You don't like it, but it happens."

(3) Syracuse vs. (14) Western Michigan: A lot of people are down on Syracuse right now, and with good reason. The Orange showed up for their first ACC tournament and got bounced, and that was the win that put N.C. State in the field. (SMU is smarting now because of it.) Jim Boeheim's team started 25-0 but has lost five of its last seven. I actually think Cuse has a decent chance of getting to the Elite Eight. That seemed a given three weeks ago, but now it's not a popular pick.
