SU OLB Cam Lynch Named 4th 'Freak' Athlete in College Football (PS; Bailey)

Here's the "buzz" that led Huguenin to place Lynch ahead of others including Mississippi State outside linebacker Benardrick McKinney, Georgia running back Todd Gurley and UCLA running back/linebacker Myles Jack, who was left off the list.
He lacks ideal size, but has been an important player since he first stepped on campus and will start for the second season in a row this fall. He is both strong and fast. He has been clocked at 4.7 seconds in the 40 and can squat 620 pounds, clean 374 pounds and bench press 435 pounds. He also can do 36 reps in the bench press at 225 pounds. He also can do a standing back flip, and his vertical jump has been measured at 36 inches.

Video: SU AA Candidate S Durell Eskridge Trains at WR During Off Season Workout (PS; Bailey)

With a combination of injury and inexperience at the wide receiver position last season, Syracuse turned to starting safety Durell Eskridge at times.
A two-way star at Miami Central High School, Eskridge was recruited by then-SU defensive coordinator Scott Shafer and initially agreed to play safety full-time. But when Syracuse wideout Adrian Flemming suffered a season-ending lower body injury against Northwestern on Sept. 6 last season, an opportunity began to open.
Eskridge lobbied Rob Moore, the Orange's wide receivers coach last year, to give him a shot, and eventually Moore did. With Jarrod West (upper body) and H-back Brisly Estime (hand) also sidelined for SU's game against Pittsburgh on Nov. 23, Eskridge lined up out wide
for a play.

SU Ranked #61 Program in Athlon Sports Preseason Ratings, #9 in ACC (PS; Bailey)

...
With numerous returners on each side of the ball and the momentum from the Texas Bowl win over Minnesota, Syracuse is poised to take another step in 2014. Yet the talent gap between the Orange and ACC Atlantic Division members Florida State and Clemson remains huge. Every other game will be a crapshoot, and another upper-division finish and bowl are attainable.

The Orange was ranked behind the Gophers (No. 52), eight other Atlantic Coast Conference programs and seven of its 12 regular-season opponents (Notre Dame is No. 13).

How Much Would a Carrier Dome Roof Failure Hurt CNY? Here Are Some Numbers: (PS; Tobin)

...
  • The roof will likely need to be replaced in 7 to 10 years, at an estimated cost of $25 million to install a similar roof with improvements to the lighting and audio system.
  • The dome's energy-related costs exceed $1 million per year, much of that to keep the air-supported roof inflated.
  • There is no stadium within Central New York that could accommodate 30,000-plus attendance for a SU football game. The closest location is Ralph Wilson Stadium near Buffalo.
  • Men's basketball has more than 24,000 season ticket holders. No existing NBA stadium in the nation has the capacity to seat that many spectators.
  • The regional economic activity lost if a single men's basketball game against a major opponent was played outside of Central New York would be as much as $8.3 million, with the loss of regional income as much as $2.6 million.
  • The regional economic activity lost if the entire home football schedule was played outside Central New York would range between $23 million and $44 million, with the loss of income to the region ranging from $7 million to $14 million.

Kicker/Punter Sterling Hofrichter Visits, Details What's Next in His Recruitment (PS; Mink)

Syracuse hosted its No. 1 target on special teams on Friday when Florida kicker/punter Sterling Hofrichter visited the school.
As far as visits go, it was pretty routine. He toured campus, checked out the Carrier Dome, weight room, cafeteria, locker room and dorm rooms he'd be staying in as a freshman. He also tried on the new uniforms, a moment he captured and posted on Instagram during the visit.

Hofrichter has first dibs on the opportunity, and Friday's visit left a positive impression on him.
"I think everything was probably the highlight because I got to tour the campus, check out the dorms, so I know where I'll get to stay and all that, checked out the Carrier Dome," Hofrichter said.
