Chuck Bullough Especially Thankful This Father's Day (PS; Carlson)
With two weeks until National Signing Day, Syracuse defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough dropped his recruiting responsibilities and drove 10 hours through the night to East Lansing, Michigan.
He spent it wide awake, thinking of all the things he'd tell his father with one last chance.
Hank Bullough, his role model, hero and dad, lay in a hospital bed after suffering a stroke early in the evening on Jan. 27. He had been laying outside his garage in sub-zero temperatures for nearly an hour before he was found by his wife, Lou Ann.
"It was 10, 20 below and he'd been like that for an hour," Lou Ann said. "His hat, his gloves, his cell phone were all out on the driveway. He'd crawled into the garage but didn't have the strength to get in the house."
At the hospital, doctors told the family to consider what to do if Hank needed to be resuscitated. Most that suffer a stroke this severe will die within a few days, they said.
"The worst part was the drive," Chuck said. "I was hoping I'd be able to see him, to say all the things you always want to say, to tell him you love him."

For many, Father's Day is a reason to spend time with your Dad. For others, that extends to step-fathers and grandfathers. And for others still, that extends to the figures who took a fatherly role in one's life — a single mother, a coach, a mentor.
For those who have lost their fathers, it can be a day of mourning. And for those who have come close to losing their father, it can be a day to cherish.

Parris Bennett Preps to Play in Ohio-Michigan Classic (PS; Bailey)
With two weeks left before Parris Bennett packs his bags for Syracuse, the incoming SU linebacker is preparing to get one last taste of the Ohio-Michigan rivalry.
Bennett and his Michigan teammates will take on Ohio in the Ohio-Michigan Border Classic on Saturday at 1 p.m at Donnell Stadium in Findlay, Ohio. ESPNU offered to televise the game, but a deal fell through according to ElevenWarriors.com. It is unclear if the game will be streamed online.
"I'm pretty confident in our team," Bennett said on Friday. "And of course Michigan-Ohio, it's just a natural thing."
Bennett, who described the opportunity to play against Ohio's best as something he's always wanted to do, has spent the last couple days practicing with his fellow statesmen in Findlay. He suited up against many of his temporary teammates during his career at University of Detroit Jesuit High School, and worked out with others at camps.

Michigan Beats Ohio State in Border Classic (miprepzone.com; Wladyslawski)
For many years, a debate has raged on as to whether Michigan or Ohio features the better high school football talent.
On Saturday afternoon, each state showed up loaded up with Division 1-bound seniors, including three from the Downriver area, and ready to provide an answer at the inaugural Michigan-Ohio Border Classic All-Star Game at Ohio’s University of Findlay.
This time around, it was the team from up north that showed its dominance, earning a decisive 27-14 victory on enemy turf.
“I think it’s big because it’s representation for the state of Michigan,” said Mike Zdebski (Walled Lake Western), who headed up the team. “Everybody talks about how everybody else is better in high school football, but this shows you Michigan has great football, we have great players, great coaches and great association.”
Representing Downriver were receiver Malik Boyton (Melvindale-Austin Peay University), linebacker Damon Singleton (Roosevelt – Ball State University) and receiver Brandon Sowards (Roosevelt – Michigan State University). Boyton had two catches for 12 yards, while Sowards and Singleton both saw significant playing time, as well.

Ohio-Michigan Border Classic Replaces Big 33 as Pennsylvania Gives Ohio the Boot (elevenwarriors.com; Rowland)
In October 2012, as the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers were on a collision course for the Super Bowl, the Big 33 Football Classic shuttered its doors to the state of Ohio. The decision put in jeopardy a long held tradition and point of pride: all 48 Super Bowls has included at least one Big 33 alum.
After a 25-year relationship with the state of Ohio (1972-76, 1993-2012), Pennsylvania gave the Buckeye State the boot in favor of Maryland. There’s speculation as to why the affiliation dissolved, ranging from Ohio’s success – four straight wins – to the Keystone State no longer being able to fulfill its contractual obligation for Ohio’s scholarship fund.
“It’s kind of out of the blue,” Grafton Midview head coach Bill Albright, then-president of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association, said. “When we left [in 2012], we thought they were happy with the contract arrangements. We thought we were in good standing. Then I got [the] letter.
“I’m disappointed for the players and coaches because it was fun. Obviously, something changed.”

WHAT THEY SAID
“Coach said in the huddle we're going to run a post to you, so be ready. In my mind I was just thinking about catching the ball. I did and we ended up winning the game,” –Maryland WR Reggie Lewis Jr.
“Honestly, we came out sluggish with dumb mistakes and blown assignments. On that first big [Dickerson TD run] two guys went opposite ways and the hole was wider than Broad Street. It was all about sticking together and fighting back as hard as possible. Unfortunately we came up short, but I don't regret a thing. This week was awesome.” –PA linebacker Zaire Franklin

Defense became a theme from that point on. Woods picked off another in the third on a Keystone state trick play. But from that point on, it was all Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania recovered a fumble in the third quarter and scored on the ensuing drive to cut the deficit to 24-14, making what looked like a blowout a close contest once again. The defense stepped up to another level in the fourth, recording four sacks — two from Luke Carrezola and 1.5 from Zaire Franklin — and halting any potential clock-chewing drive quickly.

Marvin Harrison Dodges Bullets After Picking Up Man in Boxers (PS; Mink)
Former Syracuse and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison was interviewed by police after he and another man were shot at early Saturday morning, according to a report in the Philadelphia Daily News.
Harrison was driving his pickup truck in Philadelphia at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday when he was flagged down by a 38-year-old man wearing boxers who was being chased by two intruders, according to the report, which cites unnamed police sources.
He begged Harrison, 41, to call 9-1-1. Harrison allowed him to climb into the bed of the pickup.
The burglars darted outside, the sources said, and one pulled out a gun and fired twice in the direction of the truck.
Neither Harrison nor the fleeing apartment dweller was wounded, but a bullet apparently tore into one of Harrison's tires, which went flat a short while later, the sources said.
