Monmouth gets crushed in the NIT...

One game in the NIT does not constitute whether they deserved to get in or not. This board will be a better place once people can understand that.

Had this SU team gone to the NIT, I could easily see them getting smoked first round in front of about 6k. We would then be defending ourselves against the same thing.

Right - because Monmouth is so used to NCAA tournament appearances that in a measly NIT doesn't inspire them enough. Come on.

The only team that was truly good enough to be included in the field this year and wasn't was Saint Mary's. And maybe the Bonnies but the fact that the majority of their fans were barking up the wrong tree by crapping on Syracuse pissed me off. Not to mention it was stupid because THEY LOST TO SYRACUSE. As a result I hope they never play in the Tourney again.

I get this and its sorta true... butttttt its just a cop out IMO to simply make excuses for these teams and say it means nothing. Comparing the resumes of the likes of monmouth and Bonas to Cuse its apples to oranges and not an exact science. Any type of results have to help add some context. They are trying to determine the better team and better resume when they play such drastically different schedules, so when you look at the results since and see that Bonas lost at home to Wagner, Monmouth Lost at home to GW in dominating fashion, and then consider that not only does the ACC have 6 of the sweet 16, and not only that cuse played 7 of the 15 other remaining tourney teams, but that there is only 1 mid major remaining, it has to make one wonder if maybe the comittee actually isnt as stupid as everyone wants to believe.

Imagine if cuse missed the tourney and we were sitting here staring at this sweet 16 filled with our peers. We would be losing our minds. Meanwhile Monmouth gets praised for how tough of a schedule they played (basically the only reasoning for even gett9ing at large consideration) yet I look at it and see exactly 3 tournament teams. The entire season. ND Dayton and Iona, who is only in because monmouth couldnt beat them in their conf championship. Sorry but I dont feel bad for the little guy...Cuse belonged in this tourney period.

Monmouth, the Bonnies and every other school saying they weren't motivated to play in the NIT is full of sh--. NOne of those schools have the legacy to pass up chances to win titles and forums to preach their case.

This GW team had as good a resume as any bubble team that missed out, and probably better than a few that did get in. They beat UVA, so that alone should've given them an edge.

This nails it.

College players do not play well in games they wish they were not playing. It's true for football. Look at Alabama getting smoked by Oklahoma in a bowl game a few years back. A poor performance in the booby prize tournament is not a justification for why they were excluded from the big show.

Saying that: I'm fine with Monmouth losing. I didn't like their bench antics. It took away from what their team was able to achieve. --But then I'm a "get off my porch" old man.

We lost to St. John's. Good teams suffer embarrassing losses sometimes. Such is life when the sport's playoff system is a series of one and done's; the best teams don't always advance.

Enough with this results-based thinking nonsense.

Monmouth losing doesn't justify their exclusion, just like us stealing souls over the weekend doesn't justify our inclusion. Theyre out because they didn't deserve with those horrible losses.

Hell I still don't think VCU should've made it in in 2011.

I don't like the idea that results can't validate or invalidate your inclusion in the tournament. It's a little different when comparing to the NIT because it has to be tough to get motivated for a post-season tournament that doesn't matter in every way a tournament could not matter. But, for Syracuse, why does winning not prove we belong? I'm of the opinion our resume was simply better than the teams left out, so winning isn't even needed to prove we belong, but our results so far should certainly aid the argument.

If you get into Harvard through some kind of admissions mistake and go on to earn a 3.2 gpa, does that not prove you belong at Harvard?

Props to GW who have a player from my alma mater, Westhill in Jordan Roland, and another local stand out in Tyler Cavanaugh from JD.

Guys, it was a joke. Jeez. Don't get your panties in a wad. It's sports, not life or death. I just thought it was funny. And for the person above who said essentially result don't matter...well, I'm pretty sure in sports and life it's the only thing that does.

No. That football stuff is pure unadulterated excuse making for SEC teams when they lose. It's what they do.

Carry on.

Conversely if we got stomped by Dayton you would think we shouldve been left out?

They also played USC twice, splitting with them.

I wouldn't. As I said, I think we belonged in, regardless. But I would understand if others felt it would justify the opinion that we should have been left out, even though I wouldn't agree with it.

Those people are idiots.

To each their own but I tend to not think "results-based thinking" is nonsense.

I feel like if I go down this line of reasoning anymore, then people are going to assume that I don't think we deserved to be in (We do).

All I'm going to say is that we belonged in regardless of what we did this weekend, and Monmouth belonged out regardless of how deep they went in the NIT.

Did their bench do funny things like fake chop down a Cherry Tree/cross the Rubicon/perform a dental operation involving wooden teeth?

Gtech also put a beatdown on S carolina, another team some people thought should have got in over us lol.
