This was an incredibly enjoyable experience. We had CTO-level seats at Dollar General prices. The players and coaches were available for pictures and autographs. I got selfies with almost every player. The players were high-fiving kids during warmups. The dunks during warmups were better than the dunk contest. Carey is a freak athlete and does not move like a baby giraffe. All of the freshmen were putting down big dunks, having fun, doing alley-oops , and seem to have camaraderie. Copeland was the standout for me during warmups. He is taller and more solid than I expected, and he could possibly play forward. The three point contest was a lot of fun. All of the guys struggled on the first rack. Taylor went first and hit 10 of 15 threes. He has a good stroke and quick release. He hit 2-3 jump shots during the scrimmage as well. I think he is going to get a good amount of minutes. Symir went second in the three point contest, which surprised me. He hit 8 out of 15 after a slow start. Both Mintz and Symir both ran the offense well, but neither really stood out during the scrimmage. Bunch hit 11 of 15 in the contest. His release is a little slower than Taylor but is slightly taller. He played well in the scrimmage. He is fast with decent handle. I think he is going to get decent minutes. Girard hit 10 of 15. He got hot after missing a few in the beginning. His misses were in an out. Joe stood out in the scrimmage. Initially, Copeland was guarding Girard and shutting him down. Copeland looked like the best defender out there when they played man to man in the first 10 minutes. Joe missed his first three, and I am pretty sure he hit all of his remaining shots while barely hitting the net. He made at least 3 threes and was not chucking it. Jesse picked up where he left off prior to his injury last year if not better. He owned Carey on offense and made everything within 10 feet through contact. Carey is going to have to put on some weight to contend with ACC centers. With Benny out, it is really hard to get a read on the others. JBA and Hima played some at the 4 with Benny out. No one was subbed out other than the bigs. Mintz had a breakaway floater that JBA blatantly goaltended, and JBA gave a funny "no way" type expression after the goaltend was called. JBA later had a big block. Copeland also had a breakaway and set JBA up for an off the backboard dunk. I think the only guaranteed starters are Edwards and Girard. Mintz and Williams will likely get the nod in the beginning of the season. The young guys are playing hard and are hungry. I hope JB spreads the minutes around. JB was smiling throughout the dunk contest and most of the night. Side note - the women's team looks real good. Dyaisha is the real deal. Hyman and Rice hit a lot nice jump shots. There were a lot more substitutions and team swaps during the women's scrimmage. Coach Jack has a nice squad
