LOL

Wow. Getting LESS THAN ZERO respect on their board.

I mean, you'd think they picked us on purpose.

It's probable, yeah. But jeezus are they confident. Not so much as a whisper of a worry. Apparently humility is not their forte. I will not be revisiting that POS.

Typical though. Gawd it would be great to put them down...Boeheim and Bernie rot in hell

when you don't play a team from a BCS conference, or a ranked team, it's easy to get overlooked.

I would imagine after the loss we just went through, that we'll be spitting fire by the time they toss it up on Thursday. First round games are always unpredictable, but I am certain that our kids are going to come out focused and take care of business.

I would hope they would come out fired up. I hope they play later in the day and there is a big upset before the tip.

I went over and read the thread on their board. I am getting hammered hard for saying they are a SWAC team. I thought I was posting in my Bracket Comments thread when I was in the Montana thread. But sure somebody who makes an observation on a conference never avoiding the play in, is someone that has no idea about the national scope.

Seems like an optomistic bunch which they should be -- we have to travel and we have had some tough games in round 1 in recent years. At the same time no reason for us not to be happy with our first round draw. Montana should not be a 13 seed. Merely thinking that Montana is a better draw than Davidson, does not mean we do not respect them at all.

I posted over there, thought it friendly enough, just asking for a rundown about their team but they threw me the cold shoulder, C'est la vie..

Montana is a plucky team that can give us fits, but if we play decent I don't see them having a chance in beating us. Their board doesn't seem ridiculous, but if they honestly think they can outplay us they are mistaken. It will take Syracuse getting in a shooting slump and Montana shooting well from 3. Their board thinks us being playing far away from home will be a problem when honestly getting far away and creating an US against them mentality is exactly what this team needs. Unless Montana thinks they can play defense at a Georgetown/Louisville level they are in for a rude awakening.

Seems like they are upset we are talking about round 2 and round 3 matchups. If you are a 4 seed of course you look at those games. It doesn't mean win is assumed.

I respect them. They are a plucky team sort of like Yukon. You always gotta be wary of mid- or small- majors.

In 1991, we were the undisputed Big East regular season champions and ranked #4 in the country. We had a 16 point lead on Villanova in the first round of the BET with 4 minutes left. I remember Doug Logan and whoever his partner was at that time talking about our match-up in the next round, when the game would start, when the pre-game show would start, make sure to turn in, etc. Nova outscored us 0-18 in those 4 minutes. The team was still in a funk a week later when they lost to the Richmond Spiders. I remember looking at the Richmond scores that year before the game and not seeing any big wins and a 50 point loss to Georgia. It seemed like the perfect team to bounce back on. Instead they bounced us. it's the only time we've gone one and done in both tournaments.

That's not a prediction. Just a warning. Sometimes a collapse at the end of a game can carry over to the next week. Let's hope you are right and that this doesn't happen here.

Its why they play the game.
If we don't show up the momentum will build, crowd will be against us (as they are against EVERY higher seed in the Dance), and we'll lose.
A tense, tight, Asheville or Detroit-like game will not be to our advantage. We need to stomp them out, something we didn't do against Louisville.

The key is Brandon , whether he shows up or not, hopefully he realizes this is he final go round, and plays well.

Key is penetration and continued ball movement. If we can get in the lane on their guards then we'll be fine.

I'm just impressed that they've harnessed technology that's about three months ahead of the classic bulletin board system.

I remember that season well--that was where we first "earned" our reputation as a post-season choker. However, there are many other examples of our team losing in the BET and then being focused in the NCAA tournament. I don't think anybody is suggesting that we CAN'T lose to a lesser seed--see: Richmond, Vermont, Rhode Island.

A better question is whether our team will come out unfocused and go through the motions, or be motivated by losing to Louisville. I think that that latter is more likely, regardless of what happened in the 2nd half against Louisville. If they come out and play poorly, then certainly Montana is capable of springing an upset. But I think people need to take a closer look at the advanced metrics and what they imply about how this game will unfold.

We shouldn't be smug about this. If Brandon has another one of his 2-12 with 0-7 from 3 games with 6 TO's, we could go down to anyone. As good as we played in NYC, this is too fragile a team to be over confident.

Agreed. No brainer.
